Have a read here and think about people who continually slag off the younger generation as being "lazy, computer gaming layabout good-for-nothings".

Nice too see there are still (a few) reasons for being proud to be British.

Indeed Monty, perhaps the Government need to triple the size of our armed forces in order to reintroduce conscription. This would surely address the lazy culture we're witnessing!
I wonder how goaters would vote?
(Best see if it's already been done first I suppose..)

I think Monty's point was that those 2 men who are in line for Victoria Crosses are of "the lazy playstation generation" so therefore the the lazy tag is unfounded.

I disagree with the idea that national serice is the answer to the nations ASBO/Yobbo culture. It's not the military's job to sort out unruly kids it's the parents job and should be in hand a lot earlier in life than by the time they're old enough to join the military.

The heroic deeds of two young men in Afghanistan, and indeed the countless unreported deeds of young men and women serving overseas, does not IMHO mean we can all breath a sigh safe in the knowledge that there is no such thing as a 'playstation generation'. Youth obesity caused through poor diet and inactivity is but one problem which will come back to bite the UK (probably a supersized bite with fries and a full fat coke) in years to come. All this report highlights is the growing devide between those in the minority who are willing to make sacrifices for their country and those who are more comfortable sitting on their backsides with a beer and a pizza by their side, playing the latest installment of Halo 3 or whatever and doing fcuk all for their community.

For every one Victoria Cross, there must be countless stories of teenagers who have mugged pensioners, robbed corner shops, vandalised property etc. Sorry Monty but for now I'll continue slagging off those youth who are simply a burden on society. Their numbers outweigh by far those who are prepared to fight and die for their country.

I was merely pointing out that its unfair to tar us all with the same brush. there are plenty of the older generation who are bone-idle chav two-bit good-for-nothings as well.

I agree and I'm young enough to remember how frustrating it was to hear 'the youth of today' being blamed for everything. But I, like you and many of us on here, chose to do something with our lives rather than just stand there with our hand out waiting for society to drop some cash in it.
