we need a britain day, or start recognizing St George's day. National holiday would be good!

Trouble is Arpil 23rd falls in amongst the time of year when we have three sets of bank holidays...We need one between the August Bank holiday and Christmas as thats quite a gap...around Halloween would be nice.

Britain Day? Not needed

Britain Day? Not needed

As Britain (Great or otherwise) is a union of two other countries plus two provinces added on there is no need of a 'Britain Day'. Yes , let the english have there St Georges day by all means just don't call it Britain Day.

I think a Britain Day is a great idea. We should be rightly proud of our nation and our heritage - irrespective that Labour (and other political parties) have tried to screw it up. However...its BRITAIN DAY .....NOT St Georges Day nor St Andrews Day nor St Davids Day nor St Patrick's day. If any of the 4 nations that make up our GREAT unified nation wish to have their own Patron Saints Day then thats fine just don't attempt to take over GREAT BRITAIN DAY.
So.....YES! lets go for it....a national holiday to pay tribute to all who made our nation so great and to this GREAT country of ours........ GREAT BRITAIN.

Ok so Wales is actually a principality!
What we should remember is that there are THREE countries that make up the British Isle's, all of which had long INDEPENDENT histories up till three hundred or so years ago. We were UNITED under one King (James VI) in the Seventeenth Century. So the UK is a UNION of two seperate countries with a couple of add-on's.

Ok, so lets set the record straight incase others get slightly confused:

The British Isles

Sovereign states : The Republic of Ireland.
The United Kingdom of Great Britian & Northern Ireland.

Dependencies of the : Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man
British Crown

Semi-autonomous : Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England.
countries in the UK

Why can't we all celebrate together in being British! rather than segregating this once GREAT nation even further!!!

Do I class myself as English? yes!!! because i was born in England.
Do I class myself as British? yes!!! because i was born in Britain.
Do i class myself as European? no!!! yes I technically born in Europe, however I don't feel as if I am European!!!
I will support England when they play but will support Britain overall!!!!!

I am British and proud of it and i would like to have a day of celebration of all things BRITISH not just ENGLISH, Irish Welsh or Scottish!

Britain Day? If you ask me it's an excellent idea, they have the same thing out here in Norway on May the 17th. It was excellent, the ENTIRE country was ****ed, bands played in the streets, everyone was flying their national flags proudly. It was a great day, made me wonder why these people are openly proud to be Norwegian when back home being proud to be British gets you branded as some sort of racist.

I agree with you almost completely. I am Welsh AND British. I also consider myself to be European, but that's an argument for another day.

Just out of interest, I voted "No" to the Welsh Assembly for all the good it did me. I believe and always have that we are stronger as a United Kingdom than we ever could be as individual countries, principalities, provinces and dependencies.

It's about time we turned the tide on the separationists and had a truly National Holiday.

A Bank Holiday date that sits neatly between the Late August Bank Holiday and Christmas? Hmmm Let me think. I know 21st of October, thats about mid way between the two.

Now what could we commemorate on that day? Got it! Lets call it Trafalgar Day and celebrate the whole nation whupping some cheese eating surrender monkey ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a thought.

Nope, England isn't semi-atuonomous, it's ruled by a predominantly Scottish Mafia trading under the guise of the Labour party.

Off Topic Don't forget though, Scottish MP's can vote on English matters while English MP's can't vote on Scottish matters, hence the disproportionate amount of money Scotland gets from the United Kingdom tax pot. Off Topic

As to Great Britain day, lets go for it and sod the PC brigade who will no doubt cry that it is a disgusting idea because it promotes memories of the Empire. Those cnuts would probably ok it if we called it Little Britain Day though, go figure!!
