Just think, what state would the Armed Forces be in now?

Considering we have spent the past five or so years in various conflict's and still facing cutbacks imagine what state we would be in now, not a good one I would imagine.

Long live war! (after all, it keeps the monthly pay rolling in)

I'd happily lose my job and struggle just to get a few colleagues back....

And the cut backs were brought about because of the amount of money being spent in these conflicts so as well as these people being alive the forces would probably be in a better state. Non of it is good.

Even if 9/11 had never happened, we'd have still gone to Iraq and maybe Afghanistan at some stage. The Bush family would have had too much to lose by not taking their natural resources by force. 9/11 was a catalyst admittedly, but in this case, it is akin to a side issue.

Always amazes me when people post threads that are going to cause a stir and then log off straight after.

Hand grenade comments, often lobbed over the shoulder into the crew room as an individual was leaving. Seen them used to cause this kind of uproar. Trolling, pure and simple.

The armed forces would have been cut back anyway, but maybe a bit quicker.

It would not have been so publically obvious how badly it effected us operationally.

Finacially we would be in the same state as the money now being spent on OOA would have been chopped from the budgets. And no doubt wasted in other government c0*k ups.

The recruitment and retention problems wouldn't be so bad.

Some of the kit now being rushed in would never have happened.

The papers would have nothing to write about.

Most importantly we would not be loosing so many fine men and women

Well seeing as how that comment has caused such a reaction I guess I should address those comments first.

It was not meant to cause offence or in anyway belittle those who have sacrificed their lives for others. At my current location I am acutely aware of what is happening and in I am no way making light of the situation. I had hoped that people in here would see the comment for what it was, a pure and simple (if somewhat lacking the appropiate emoticon that seems to be required) observation that, at the end of the day, many people would perhaps not be in a job or facing the prospect of severe cutbacks if we were all sat around waiting for the next war to happen.

As for the observation that I am trolling/trying to wind people up...Aye, ok, of course I am, take away the last comment and it is a relatively decent question designed to provoke discussion in a CHAT ROOM which, if Im not mistaken, is what the Goat is for.

And finally...mad_moriarty. Of course I am going to log off straight after, I am using a shared computer and perhaps I don't have the luxury of staying logged on all day, refreshing in the hope that a reply has been posted.

well from wot i ahve been told by people who have gone to breifs the RAF is shagged out completely, harriers are fcuked out in stan, the ailing AT fleet is even more ailing and cos we have given saudi our EFA's f3's will have to go on longer plus more work for everyone! I think the RAF will need a hell of a long time to recover from this in fact it may never recover!

Even if you REALLY do believe that...which i doubt
you can't believe that we would have followed
