I've managed to sweet talk the missus into letting me head to my mate's stag weekend next month in Bournemouth. :pDT_Xtremez_28: Never been before and am looking forward to it immensely. But it got me thinking, where are the best nights out in Britain and where are the Goaters favourites? Mine are in order:

1) Liverpool - OK I'm biased, it's my home town, but Scouseland is definitely my personal favourite, especially over the last 10 years or so when most places have smartened themselves up big time. Yes, it can be very studenty and the tourists in Mathew Street are a pain in the a rse, but I've never had a bad night up there and everyone else I've taken up there has loved it. From the trendy Albert Dock bars to the Breckside pub off Walton Breck Road, all tastes are catered for.

2) Camden High Street - Was a regular haunt in my STC days. Saturday afternoon getting off the tube at Camden High Street, walking up as far as Kentish Town and drinking our way back down to the World's End and then finishing in The Backpacker in Kings Cross...ahh, those were the days!

3) Hereford - Maybe it was the impetuousness and naivety of youth, but Hereford (and all of those who were there will agree) was top notch on the lash. The Restoration, Kerry Arms, Booth Hall, SPread Eagle before moving on to the Crystal Room for the Grab-a Toothless Hag games. That was grand...Come on, admit it!

So Goaters, where's best for the bevvy? Indeed, where would you avoid like the plague?

Firstly I had a weekend in Bournemouth with my best mate, a squaddie and his civvy mate several moons ago and we had a fantastic time and contrary to popular beliefs Bournemouth is not full of little old ladies/men!!! So you will no doubt have a ball!
As for best night out well that depends on what youre after I guess. I hail from Leeds originally and thats supposed to be a great night out personally I think its sh1te!!! I was based at Coltishall for 5 years and always had a good night out in Norwich. My days of 'having it large' in a club are pretty much over, much prefer a good pub with maybe a live band nowadays!!!
or a nice cup of tea :pDT_Xtremez_09:

1. Blackpool. All those girls on hen nights. Can't be beat.

2. Glasgow. I spent most of last summer there, pub-crawling up and down Sauchiehall Street. Fantastic.

3. Swansea. Well, it's my home town, and although I haven't been on the pop there for a few years now, the memories of a mis-spent youth stay with you for life.

Other good nights that didn't quite make it into the top 3 include Hereford (Kerry Arms & Marilyn's), Stamford (my first tour was at a unit very close to there - loads of local girls who weren't fussy) and Ripon (Monty's on a Wednesday - the best strip show east of the Pennines!)

Bournemouth? retirement capital of the uk!. Im only 40 minutes down the road from there but I have heard it gets a bit naughty sometimes down there, lots of Dorset old bill come kicking out time etc. Ohh, and you will freeze your nuts off this time of year down there.

In the UK Rose Street in Edinburgh on a Saturady afternoon into the evening is hard to beat...starting at the Milne Bar at one end...

York is really good for a stag...the locals welcome you as long as you are not out of order and the last one I did there it felt like I'd lived there for years (I hadn't!)...

If you're ever travelling up North and feel the need to stop then pull off at J36 on the M6 and go on the lash in Kendal...It's my home town so I'm biased but it's got about 30 pubs in the town and everyone just gets out on the lash come Saturday...plus you're on the doorstep of the lakes...

Soho seems to have got it's act together these days...It's got a lot smarter and a bunch of restaurants and bistro's have sprung up...obviously a sh*t load of bars and pubs as well makes it a good evening out...

I remember Nottingham from my Swinderby days. A few of us went to MGMs to see the legendary Steve Wright and one of his gigs. But you're right, it is rough as f uck though. Never tried York, but I've heard a few good stories about the place.

And York has some interesting old buildings and museums to look around as well.....Perhaps the chance of some rare brass rubbings...

Thanks for that mate. I'll take that on board. What are the chances of breast rubbings instead of brass rubbings?

Have to agree with Vim and Fab. York and Newcastle. York - was born there, so I'm biased. Being a Uni town it's full of talent, but gets a bit manic in the tourist season. Had some good sessions in Newcastle too.
