Transfer/Remuster?

Hi,

Wasn't sure whether to put this in 'Letters to the Shop Floor', but thought it might fit better here as a purely Reserves related question...

Hypothetically speaking, if a Reservist wanted or needed to transfer from his/her current squadron to another one with a different role/trade, how would he/she go about it?

Who should they speak to first in order to avoid offending people/rocking too many boats?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Send it up your chain of command. If the "hypothetical person" already has his or her eye on a billet in the other squadron then that makes it easier. But the command structure has to know these things otherwise stuff just won't happen.

Then gen app the move.

I have made a move like that (although I was making the move from a post being abolished so everyone in both sqns was on my side as it were).

As Beowulf says.

It is probably ok to make initial enquiries and check out possibilities, but talk to own Sqn CoC and make a formal application to proceed as soon as it becomes anything more than a possibility.

Thank you for the help.

In this case:

Said 'hypothetical person' is maybe a bit disillusioned with his choice of role/trade and thinks he could hypothetically find what he's looking for and do more good with another unit.

Obviously, he would hypothetically need to present himself before the Corporal and express the desire to transfer, but would it be best manners for that happen before making any enquiries with the other unit, or should he hypothetically make very quiet enquiries in that direction first, just in case the other unit don't want him?

Does this person know anyone personally in the other unit? Maybe an informal chat with a mate just to get the lay of the land would be OK but if this person just rocks up at the other unit's open day the person will feck off his existing chain of command as that is just plain bad manners. And then the name calling starts...

Also if that person chats to their Cpl there may be something that that Cpl (who, after all, has a career management role just like our regular counterparts) can do to assist the person in their current role? Maybe the issue the person is having is not the insurmountable problem it seems before talking to someone with some time under their belt who knows the score?
