The White Cap?

I have worked with the RAF Police in SE Asia and Australia but I never got around to asking this question, probably because at the time we had more important issues to deal with.

Anyhow, after all these years, here goes.

Does a member of the RAF Police wear the white cap only when on Police Duty and then removes the white cover when Off Police Duty?

The RAAF Police, now known as SECPOL ie RAAF Security Police, does not have any distinguishing emblems on their uniform, other than the SECPOL brassard, and the SECPOL metal badge which clips on their breast pocket and when they are Off Police Duty but still in uniform all of these are removed thereby making the uniform no different from any other member of the RAAF.

The short answer is this: The white part of the cap is not removable, it forms the whole fabric of the top part.
We do have a normal blue SD hat, but it's very rarely, if at all worn.

It used to be the case that RAFP not employed on "shift" policing duties would wear the blue hat to distinguish themselves from the shift guys. (Examples would have included travelling ATSy, CI, and SI specialists.) This practice has died out however.
Warrant Officers traditionally have worn the blue hat, although some, just recently have chosen to wear the white one.

I've worked with a RAAF police Flight Sergeant a few years ago, and found it strange that his rank slides did not indicate his trade. Ours still feature the red and black "Mars bar" when in blues.
In greens, the Mars bar is rarely worn nowadays due to the introduction of the "Tactical" rank slide. (Olive green, rank shown in black, with the words RAF Police in black below.)

Of course recently, due to the increase in joint operations, a red "MP" patch was added to the green uniform for easier recognition by other nationalities.

Hope that answers your question.

Yes it does thanks.

Yes, I have read somewhere, that because of the increased number of allied joint operations the 'MP' patch or brassard is to become a standard recognition for all Military Police, irrespective of service.

In Australia the Army (RACMP) wear the black on red MP brassard, Air Force is a white on black SP brassard and as the Navy Police has just undergone some major regorg; I'm not sure what their current situation is.

This was a serious question posted in an appropriate forum...Do not turn it into a copper bashing thread.

Thanks Vim. I didn't expect any less to be honest. Glad that sanity rules at last, I was just ignoring them personally.

It does always seem however that our own trade forum is a "free house" for mindless trade bashing, whereas if I posted in, say for example, the peanut's forum (No apologies Lil Miss Stupid) along the lines of, purely for example, "I've never met an intelligent TCO, in or out of uniform", then the result would be less well tolerated I'm sure.

Perhaps Lil Miss Cranium can point out the irony in this to me?

To be fair I wouldn't expect any less from you Oh Sir. It seems you have a personal vendetta against me.
Oh yeah and just for your info, TCO's get told on a regular basis that they are stupid and worthless. Think of an original insult next time!!!

Do you ever wonder why?

I'm really not the man for you to whinge to about original insults. For 18 years I've heard them all about my own trade. It's water off a duck's back for me love.

My issue with you was that you came in to a RAF POLICE specific forum and decided that this was the place to make just about the most stupid, inane, sweeping generalisation I've heard in ages.

You've never met a nice policeman? Get out more, and get those blinkers off. We do exist.

I don't have a personal vendetta about you, I made one comment last night (and at least it was in an open forum) along the lines that your posts generally don't do much for me. Wasn't much of an insult was it?

Do me a favour: Don't post in the RAFP forum again unless you have something to add, constuctive, funny, or knowledgeable about the trade. It is a serious page where RAFP matters can be discussed. It is not a free for all insult page.

I don't do it in your forum. Have the courtesy not to do it in mine.

Best regards.

That's a fair point JAFAD, Lil Miss wasn't the only one, however all the others had a certain humorous ring to them. I don't mind mickey taking one bit, in fact I welcome it, it gives me a laugh too.

Lil Miss bore the brunt of my spleen venting however for making a sweeping, serious comment in a forum where those comments are not welcome. The fight club is set aside for that.

Looking back, I feel a bit sorry for going for the jugular. My point stands. However if Lil Miss is reading this, I'm sorry for being aggressive with it.

I did a first aid at work course with a RAF copper from Brum once, he was an absolute diamond. He gave us a great laugh when I pointed out where his hand was on Annie, right in her crutch..... He said it would make her open her eyes if she was faking it and grinned. Priceless.
