The rugby challenge cup is up and running and the RAF squad have made it through to the next round by beating the amateurs of Doncaster toll bar 36 - 24. A win also for the Royal Navy 28 - 16 over Barrow Island, sadly the Army challenge cup involvement is over after losing 28 - 12 to the Ashton Bears.

Next round draw has the RAF at home (wherever that is) against York Acorns of the National Conference

Good for them. Hopefully they'll eventually draw Wigan.

As for home ground - probably somewhere close to wherever Damian Clayton is currently posted!

Looking at the draw on the BBC makes me feel sorry for London Chargers who have been drawn away to two different sides on the same day!

It would be fabulous for the RAF lads to make it as far as playing any superleague team but I fear thats a big reach.

If you get the opportunity have a read of this book by Damian. A good read for rugby lovers and a fascinating insight into the barriers the Union brass put up to stop Rugby being played by servicemen. It highlights the long struggle to get the RAF to recognise the game of 13 a side Rugby even exsists.

Ah well there's always next year as the Royal Air Force lads lose a close one 10-12 to York Acorn Rugby League club. Still it's better than the Royal Navy who got walloped 70-0 by North Wales Crusaders.
