Private healthcare for dependants

I seem to remember hearing a few years ago that private healthcare was available for dependants of forces personnel. Im not sure if it was just a military discount given by someone like Bupa or if it was a dedicated service. Can anyone point me in the right direction please or let me know their experience of private medical care? By this I mean private medical care available as an alternative to NHS as opposed to health insurance.
