No 41 Squadron Association

2016 marks the centenary year of No. 41 Squadron. It is a proud milestone for the Squadron and an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our past, but most importantly the people who made the Squadron what it was through the years.

OC 41 has invited families of current and past 41 Squadron personnel to meet, socialise, join the Squadron Association and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have served on the unit. The main centenary events will be held at RAF Coningsby in July.

On Thursday 14 July 2016 at 1400 we will hold our formal Centenary parade. Should you prefer a more relaxed setting, on Friday 22 July 2016, we will have an Open Day, commencing at 0930, where you can view 41 Squadron in our current guise as the Test and Evaluation unit for Tornado and Typhoon. Centenary details are published on www.XLI100.com, where you will also find a tab for association information.

Our Association membership is open to those who have themselves served on 41 or who have a direct family connection to the squadron. The membership fee is £20.00 for 5 years and details of how to make payment to the treasurer will be promulgated at a later date.

Additionally, if you are on LinkedIn you can find an association group under "No 41 Squadron Association”.

Should you have any further questions, then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Less than 3 weeks to go!

Less than 3 weeks to go!

The Squadron Centenary is rapidly approaching and it is not too late to RVSP to the Centenary events.

If you are interested in attending on the 14th or 21st of July then please contact the Association Secretary for more details: 41sqn.association.secretary@gmail.com

Thank you to those of you who have expressed interest in joining the Association. Our current direct membership stretches back to the Meteor era of 41 Sqn, with descendants and siblings of WW2 and WW1 veterans very well represented.

May I extend my thanks and gratitude to all those who came to the Centenary Parade and Gala Dinner. It was a privilege to meet with many of you and celebrate the Squadron Centenary in style!

The day was documented on the Squadron Facebook and Twitter pages by Sqn personnel as events unfolded:
https://goo.gl/N3rsmv - 41 Squadron Facebook page
https://goo.gl/h2TeXL - 41 Squadron Twitter page

As a backdrop to the dinner we displayed two videos, one to show the achievements of the 'Centenary Challenge' charity event and the other to tell the story of the Squadron's history. Links to view these videos and the Squadron picture archive have been made available to Association members via email.

The Centenary events are far from over. This weekend Mr Steve Brew, the Association Historian, will be launching his third book 'A Ruddy Awful Waste' at:
Dorrington Village Hall,
Torrington,
Shropshire.
Anyone who would like to attend the launch is more than welcome.
Sat, 16 July, 1345 arrival for a 1400 start.

The subject, Eric "Sawn Off" Lock, hales from Shropshire and has had a local ale named in his honour. It went down very well indeed at the Gala Dinner courtesy of Mr Mike Bradbury, a relative of Eric Lock and co-author of the book.

Next week will also be the Squadron Open Day on Friday 22nd from 0930. Another excellent opportunity to celebrate our past and meet one another.

Beyond this July there will be an Association led social event. Options are being considered by the committee at present and details of location and date will be promulgated in due course.
