Ive applied for MT driver, was originally going for ICT specialist but fell a bit short on my AST, and rather wait another 6 months i chose MT.. but is the trade being taken over by civilians? spoke to a few people who seem to think its going that way and there wont be much place for it in the air force in a few years, if anyone has any idea about this subject could you give me some advice as im thinking of choosing another trade in the air force.

Have you thought about Logistics mate? Better than driving around. If you go MT be prepared to get a full-time suntan!

another option is supplier, or if i fail my medical assessment tomorow on a temporary basis ill go back in 12 months or however long and do my AST again and go for techie. MTD seemed like a good option but ive been put off it when reading some of the topics on the forums, mainly the fact i could lose my job to a civilian if i was to join up as MT, which isnt the plan.

Don't rush it, take your time, weigh up the options and if needed, go do another aptitude test. Whilst you can re-trade, it'll be easier to sit down with all the facts and set your mind on a path than trying to get your foot in the door and then trying to move sideways to something else.

Hope this helps

All trades are feeling the pressure from contractors,
MTD or ICT and many others.

Remember we will always need tanker drivers in a warzone and people to plug computers in/ operate communications and movers and stackers in a remote airstrip.

Just consider that will be the main employment for you!

Out where is is too expensive to pay a contractor.

If you like to see a bit of the world and travel and have a bit of a laugh doing it, find something you like to do. Drive? Computers? and go for it!
