Info about Movements trade

Hey all

I have my AST a in a week and I'm really excited/nervous!

I was wondering if some people with experience could answer a few questions for me?

I've searched everywhere but only found basic info on the Mover role which I have applied for, so what sort of things are involved on a daily basis and where could I be based?

From what I can gather it can involve loading aircraft and basically arranging to get things moved from A-B. Is there much chance of deployment?

Thanks in advance.

Gotta be careful here as things might have changed a lot....

The job varies with either the operator or controller qualification, but in some manner or form it involves this sort of thing.

The Loads
Load acceptance
Load peparation
Pallet and container builds
Paperwork preparation and handling
Dangerous Goods awareness and acceptance.
Mechanical handling devices and specialist loading vehicles (just leave it at that for now)
Passenger handling
Load and messaging systems

Aircraft
Cargo Area preparation
Ancilliary equipment (winches and supports)
Doors and Ramps
Floor loading restrictions
Tie down and securing devices (nets, strops, chains and tie down points)
Floor plans and layouts
Load planning (set and custom made)
Passenger positionsing
DG and special cargo positioning
Humping and dumping on and off safely.

This is all pretty generalised and there is a lot more too it, but its enough to impress at a first go.

Where? Mostly Brize (AMF is moving there soon as well,).
Deployments : tough to avoid them - more so the more trained you become. It is commensurate with experience and so people who have no use don't get sent too far, still. In the early stages its trade knowledge, learning and working hard at home.

The most important job is acknowledging the admiring glances of the other trades as you jet off into the sunset once more, with money falling freely from your pockets, whilst they stay at home and do whatever other trades do.

Happy trails.

Thanks for the info!

It sounds pretty good but people always say 'its just putting bags on and off'

I mean I'm a postman at the moment so surely it can't be as repetitve as that?

My mum is a check-in supervisor for flybe and my stepdad is a baggage handler supervisor, and I have seen what they do and it looks not too bad, from what I can gather its similar to them both mixed in together?

Cheers,

Ryan
