Ok, here's a question:

Let's pretend that at the next General Election a new Government is voted in (highly likely given Bliar's recent performance). When they take office a new Secretary of State for Defence is installed. What would you hope the new SoS for Defence would do to current defence policy and why?

Take the military out of war altogether and sell it off to civilian contractors.

oh, that's the current policy...

How about stop making the military do more and more with less and less (people, money etc) and maybe we won't have situations were questions are asked in the house why a modest sum wasn't spent on an ac safety system.

The answer is threefold -
i) No money
ii) Too few people means that everyone in the support jobs are too busy fighting the daily crocodiles to be proactive and suggest/develop/scope improvements to equipment.
ii) Not enough money.

(I know that technically that's 2 - but I thought No money was kinda important)

Stop Lean, End2End and Rapid Improvement Events (RIE) and concentrate on trying to retain Service personnel who are good at their jobs. The Air Force has created a terrible situation with regards to morale all the talk in crew rooms is about how fed up people are with the job. We need to make the job a worth while career with good financial and promotion prospects. The Government continue to say what a wonderful job we do if that is the case give us an inflation busting pay rise and the correct equipment to do the job properly.

Get on with cutbacks

Get on with cutbacks

Reverse the decision to move the A6 Hub to leeming and move it back to Scampton, its not as if the guys have been messed around enough.

Then move everything to fit along the A1 or the roads upto Lincoln.
Witt Cott for the floaty planes and less demanding support jobs( MT and Supply- SORRY only joking) then, Cranwell (can be the HQ) and Waddo and Scampton for the bigger stuff and even keep Coningsby now we've spent a few quid on the new travelodge there.

Save a fortune having us all together, plus we don't get pi55ed off when we get posted to the place furthest away from what we wanted.
