Forum Etiquette:

These E-Goat forums were created with the intention of providing a comfortable place for people in the RAF (Or ex service person) to meet, exchange ideas, share information and enjoy each other's company. These forums are maintained in that spirit and members are expected to honour those goals. The basic guide to etiquette is this: be polite, be mature, keep your language as appropriate as you can and respect the opinions of others (even if you disagree). You are reminded that you agreed to our Terms and Conditions when signing up to the forum.

The forum administrators will browse the forums from time to time to ensure that the guidelines are being followed. Anyone not following the guidelines may find their posts deleted and risk being banned if the problem continues. If you notice any posts that do not adhere to these guidelines, please press the 'report post' button available under every post and when prompted give a reason for doing so (just in case its not totally obvious to all).

1. RACISM

Racism of any kind will not be tolerated at all. If you display any sort of racism on our forums then you will be warned then banned if you persist.

2. LOOK TO START WITH

Lurk (anonymously observe) before you leap if you are new to online forums. When you jump into a forum, do not post any comments right away. We suggest you read and catch up with what is going on first and observe what people are saying. When you feel comfortable and are ready to add a comment to the conversation, please do so.

If you are looking for certain information you may find it has already been posted on the relevant forum so have a look through the recent topic titles. Consider using the forums' search facility located on the top menu bar or using the FAQ and tech support forums. At the very least, please read the Latest Topics page before posting - you may find your question/information has already recently been answered/posted.

3. POST ON THE APPROPRIATE FORUM

There are a number of different forums on these message boards - the full list is on the 'forum index' page. Please use the appropriate forum when starting a new topic. Messages relating to a specific trade should be posted on that trade's own forum and if a forum has not been set up for that trade then please contact the admin so it can be set up. If you do park a thread in the wrong forum one of the moderators will move it to a more appropriate area and leave a re-direct message.

4. KEEP ON TOPIC

Do try and keep to the topic of the thread. If you want to raise a new issue then consider whether starting a new thread will have more value.

5. PERSONAL DISPUTES

Please do not use these forums for personal disputes, heated debates, flame wars etc. You are expected to treat each other with respect in the forums and take any personal disputes to a private mode of discussion off the forums or preferably away from the site altogether. If you should find that your discussion is becoming too heated or someone is becoming far too passionate about their argument, please take the discussion to private message or email. Remember...life is too short to spend your time arguing!

6. RESPECT OTHER USERS

Sometimes people can write something that you may find offensive. Before launching into a public condemnation though, please consider that the person may not have intended to cause offense. It is very easy to misinterpret a post on forums. There is absolutely no need to resort to insults. Respect others' views even if you disagree with them. Also, if you have a personal dislike of something in a subject by all means comment. However, if the comment is just offensive and adds nothing to the conversation except making yourself feel good then please take it to the appropriate forum like Fight Club or the Pigs bar. If you ignore this advice and persistently offend then your membership of the site will be reviewed and you may get banned. Remember that e-goat is about having fun.

7. PERSONAL MESSAGING

The use of PM's is to allow you to take discussions off the main forums for a bit of privacy. If we receive any complaints regarding the misuse of our facilities then you will have that facility withdrawn from your account.

8. ADVERTISING/SOLICITATION

Advertising for the sake of advertising is not allowed. Posts that are off topic will be deleted.

9. LINKS

Links to relevant news sources are encouraged. In particular, when posting news please provide the source for the information. Links that are off topic are not allowed and will be deleted.

10. NO TROLLING

What is a troll? It's a person who posts something which is bound to stir people up and then sits back and watches as dozens of people jump in and start arguing. Sometimes trolls get their friends to join in or post under different names. Generally they will do anything it takes to get attention. If you see a message like this, please try and refrain from replying to it - Simply press the report post button and give a reason why you have done so.

11. POWER-POSTING

Power-posting is when board members post 'empty' messages to the board in order to simply increase their number of posts more quickly. Examples of power-posting are replying to a message with only 'LOL' or 'I agree', but failing to contribute anything further to the discussion. If you reply to a message, make sure you have something to say. Power posting clutters up the forums, clutters up the 'new posts' function, and uses extra bandwidth and server space. While we don't mind people using bandwidth to chat usefully on the board, we do mind people using it just because they want a more impressive 'post counter'. If you're not sure if you're power-posting, take a moment and think it over before you post. If all your post contains is a 'LOL' or an emoticon, it's a power-post. If it adds something to the discussion, it isn't.

12. IGNORE SPAMMERS

Spam is a blight upon the face of the net. Nobody likes it. However, it is hard to avoid. Despite our best efforts, you will very occasionally see spam on the forums. Complaining about spam in public increases noise, but not signal. It may make you feel better, but it doesn't help. Hit the report post button as soon as you see it and the Goat team will get rid of it.

13. ADVERTISING

People and companies pay good money to advertise on e-goat and this money all goes to paying the server fees, site updates and if there is any left, service charities. Therefore, you are NOT allowed to promote your own, or anyone elses business, be it via posts or signature. If you want to advertise your business then you do so at the going rate. If you are caught advertising then you will be asked to remove it and if you refuse then you will have your IP address banned and account removed. If you are a business that wants to use the Goat as a platform to legitimately advertise then contact one of the moderators or admins and we will sort you out with site space.

14. COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL

Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. Any posts made on this subject will be deleted.

15. PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL

E-goat is a site that has certain forums that can be viewed by all ages and with that in mind all hardcore pornographic material will be deleted. This will result in either a warning or a permanent ban depending on the severity of your post. Hardcore porn is not acceptable at any time, any soft core pics are to be only placed in the NSFW area.

In summary treat the site with respect and enjoy it...Enjoy the Goat and look after it.
