NATO might be calling on its members to raise their defense spending, but if the alliance’s airborne early warning program is anything to go by, that message may be falling on deaf ears.

For the first time since its formation in the early 1980s, NATO’s Airborne Early Warning and Control Force (AEW&C), also known as the E-3A Component, is facing major cutbacks and a fleet downsizing—at a time when mission tempos are high because of Russian aggression in Ukraine.

With Russia taking a reading from falling oil prices whilst increasing and improving its military inventory NATO rally's needs to think hard about this...AWACS is horribly expensive to own and operate but worth every penny to have in your bag.

Well there is an easy win for the people at the top next year then, as the component that can be reduced is the E3D element, two birds with one stone and we can then ask NATO to help us like we are with MPA and aircraft on carriers as we don't have any ourselves.
