Anyone ever bought one? Found a car that seemed too good to be true and it is cat d. If its only bodywork then what are the pitfalls??

Cheers

Looks like you'd be ok, but in saying that, you'll have to do the special MOT (to make sure it's road worthy) before you can get it on the road legally.

Seem to remember when someone backed into our 306 (with a towbar :pDT_Xtremez_25: ) this was an option we were given, but that was alot more structural damage so we took the cash and got a mondeo.

Dunno about that one!!! All you'd really need to know is who signed it off as beyond economical repair.

It's a bit like service history though, it could be kept and you'd have proof it was done, but on the other hand someone might have done it, but not kept the recipts!!!!

Pot luck, but seen as it's been categorised, would the DVLA know???? possibly!! Especially as you'd need to give it the special MOT to get it back on the road!! Even if they can't give you details, they might be able to tell you where it was written off. Which would mean another phonecall, but will probably give you every detail of what was damaged and how badly.

you would more than likely need to take it to your nearest VOSA office part of the DVLA and they will carry out a VIC Vehical identity check cost £36 quid just had one done on my car because the previous owner had an accident in it and it was written off but still ok to drive after having a road worthyness check.

You need to have a good check around the car, or get someone who knows what they are looking for to have a look, be sure the car has been repaired properly.
Also check with your insurance company. The car will be more than likely on the "V car register" This means an insurance company has already paid out a sum for the car (either repair or write-off). As a result you might have trouble insuring it, or you could find (in the event of a claim) the insurance company wont pay the full amount, if anything, for the damage or total loss of your car. You need to tread carfully with any write-off especially if its on the "V car register":pDT_Xtremez_42:
