Antipodean FNG ... G'Day!

G'Day all,

Checking in, after having made several attempts over the last few years ... finally got in! As the Title suggests, I'm from one of HM's still-loved colonies, now retired from Ronnie, the second-oldest Air Force. And you may take it on notice that I don't ride a kangaroo, nor do I think the Caterwauling Budgie can sing, and I truly regret that you got saddled with that bearded oaf who made his fortune belting out semi-literate songs on empty paint tins, and I request that you accept my heartfelt apologies for inflicting such bilge upon you as "Neighbores" and its' ilk.

I look forward to learning from you all, and perhaps even contributing ... and for those of you who have had the pleasure of living amongst the Pacific nations, you'll no doubt work out my nom-de-plume ...

Welcome mate.. we had to make you wait to join, just to make sure you had served your sentence ;)

Dive into the Goat and enjoy.

I'm down at RAAF Richmond in a few weeks on a job with my beloved employer, any good bars to recommend?

re Antipodean "FNG" ...

re Antipodean "FNG" ...

Thanks, Gents, for the warm welcome, and you've all done very well, especially making me wait to ensure I'd served my sentence ... altho' my mob were voluntary emigrants from the Ould Sod in the mid-1800s - something about the pratie crops not, err, cropping.

Re the sobriquet "FNG", it is alas a Septic TLA we've embraced to refer to the effing new guy ...

And FOMz, sorry, but unfortunately I haven't been at Richmond since the late 90s, so my knowledge of places of relaxation is no longer anywhere near current [and if you knew of it, sadly, "Ma's" burned down many years ago] ... and the Messes, for many reasons, but mostly "commercialisation", are mere shadows of the places of mirth and jollity that they once were. I'm a couple of hundred Kilometres further down the coast in the Jervis Bay area, and quite delightful 'tis, albeit a bit touristy year-round ... but not as warm and pleasant a clime as my past 15 years in GodZone/BrisVegas.

Again, all, ta much for the welcome,

Cop Yers,

PS. Thanks for Sabrina!

So none of you relatives were on the Lady Juliana then huh? ;)

Heh, good one! I had to "gurgle" that ... HM's Ship Juliana was considered "the 1st-and-a-half Fleet" ... and a floating brothel, no less ... my mob sidled out here about the mid 1860s-ish, some 70-odd years later, so I suppose you'd say they missed out, either gettin' or givin', hey!

But, you'd be no doubt amazed to learn, there are no end of Ockers who proclaim considerable 'wealth' from being descended from the erstwhile transportees and that other Oirish thug, Edward Kelly and his family of thieves, roisterers and murderers - a trait I've never been able to understand.
