    TG1 Retention again

I think for me it's in the region of about 25-30 quid a month. To be totally honest I'm not completely sure how it works, I only got out of Cosford in August last year. The extra boost to techie pay, if it happens, would be nice though!

    TG1 Retention again

Plenty of rumour that apparently it is coming reasonably soon. The confusion is more around who will actually be offered it. Being an SAC I'm almost certainly not getting it unfortunately 😔 Increase in techie pay would be well recieved though!

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Not to my knowledge but it depends on the sqn I suppose. I work alongside civvies so it's a bit different on depth. The station rugby club does play its fixtures on Wednesdays though, so generally speaking I am off to play rugby on those days, or at least a few hours off if I'm on days.

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

The AFCO was staffed by blue suits when I went in, I believe that is still the case now. I think Capita handle mostly the medical side of things but don't quote me on that. Unlike when I first applied when I was around 19 I didn't have the option to walk in to an AFCO and apply as such...

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Not exactly a "young pup" but I am a late in life joiner, I started in 2022 age 35. The process took around 12 months, most of the time waiting for medical paperwork to be sent from the Army (where I was a reservist) to Capita for review. The course itself was pretty tough in my opinion...

    Ex Police

Oh I definitely miss dealing with scrotes all day! Definitely haven't enjoyed two consecutive nights on the piss, more than I would manage in a year in my old job 😂😂😂

    Ex Police

Yeah I had a good natter with some of the cpls on their NCO course the other week. At least wouldn't be here as a P2 trainee! Bit of a sore head this morning after a night out on the piss last night, doing it again tonight and then buggering off tomorrow 😂😂

    Ex Police

Well my course started last April so it's been long enough. Safe to say I'm ready to leave this place now 😂😂

Thank you! I'm off to depth maintenance on typhoon, which is what I chose. Can't wait to get started now, had some great laughs on P2 but it's such a long slog time get through.

Quick update and then I will let this thread die with dignity! I graduate phase 2 training at Cosford on Wednesday. People who said the course is intense definitely hit the nail on the head.... Longest 18 months of my life at this place, but very glad to be passing out and ready to move on to my...

    Five percent.

I'm actually quite happy with the pay award at the level I'm at. It works out at around 10% with the extra £1000. I took a massive pay cut joining the RAF and I graduate phase 2 next week, so I'm looking at a pretty hefty pay rise now.

    Charlies new hat

Yeah the night rehearsal was exhausting. Plus leaving early hours of the morning for the event itself. I remember holding the present arms position for about 15 minutes as the procession passed. Longest 15 minutes of my life! 🤣

    Charlies new hat

Oh definitely an 8, always been a royalist. Missed out on being involved due to a busted foot, was however privileged to be involved with the queen's funeral, even though being stood still for that long was horrendous!

    The first 48 hours

Absolutely hated the first week. A job I had worked my arse off to get and within 24 hours was ready to wrap my tits in and leave. That was January 2022 and I'm happy I stuck at it to be honest.

    Charlies new hat

I have always been a royalist so was gutted not to be there as I was on a chit for a minor injury. Still glad to have worked the funeral though. Each to their own of course!

    Accommodation in the news again

In a single room at the moment so thankfully that isn't an issue! Wouldn't leave anything in the tea bar though!

    Accommodation in the news again

The accommodation at Cosford isn't exactly great. In the block the plumbing is beyond useless, more than a couple of people using showers in the building results in no water pressure for anything else. Damp and mould is common, problems with electrics although that seems to have calmed down...

    RAF Halton...Week 1.

Agreed regarding the timings. Rare I was waking up much later than 0430!

Questions about RAF Regiment Gunner Reserves

I was in the Army Reserves as an artillery gunner until I went in to the RAF as a regular in January. I appreciate my experience may differ slightly from RAF Reg reserves but I expect there will be many similarities! Drill nights take place once a week for a few hours and this will usually be...
