Your thoughts on modern cars "safety" aids?

    But it's a BMW, it'll explode!!

    Car Insurance

My 15 year old Avensis is somehow more expensive to insure than my 6 year old Audi. Makes no sense to me. Shopped around and all the quotes were more expensive than the renewal being offered.

    TG1 Retention again

Ah, the age old engineer versus technician debate rears its ugly head again. Proper engineers get very grumpy about this misuse of THEIR title, "engineer" and use of post nominal letters. Technicians generally don't give a shit and are happy to accept the title bestowed upon them, (and the...

    Reserve guff

My cash is however, my pension.

    Reserve guff

Didn't apply for either of those, however, they give me some cash every month so probably have a good idea where I live. They even managed to send a letter to my home address.

    Reserve guff

    Just me then, that's worrying.

Anyone else had their "Annual Reporting Letter" fall through their letterbox?

    Is it time yet?

I expect they are long time served Sgts though. I was told to only try for FS if I really wanted to be a WO. Shittest rank out of all of them, you stopped being a technician and became a man manager.

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

If you weren't going on Expeds/Staff Rides you were in a job in the RAF. Those extras made it into a lifestyle. Those folks staying at work moaning didn't know how the system worked. They all took a fair bit of organising though and H&S slowly took away some of the opportunities as you...

Loved being part of the station fishing team. Wednesday afternoon match practice. LOL

    New Accomodation Model

We were at St Eval when all this kicked off and the houses were eye wateringly priced compared to the local area house prices. Not many queues formed to buy these houses and they took ages to eventually be bought up. A few folks got a bargain when they bought the officers houses.

    New Accomodation Model

So equal treatment across the board with officers only being entitled to a house that fits the size of the a family rather than according to the rank held. Seems sensible to me. I was denied a house at Valley as there were only "SNCO and officers" quarters sitting empty but I couldn't have...

Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

I now tend to recommend that if you want to travel in the RAF that you join as admin as you can get into the Embassy circuit etc. Not a lot of travel opportunities for travel for the techy lot these days.

    Unnecessary NI court action

Just like the post office people did. Didn't stop them from going to prison.

    TG1 goodbye Chf Tech

You could then have a 'new' badge with three stripes and a propellor above for FS Tech.

    New Accomodation Model

Marham's patch had mixed MQs. So did Valley. Dependent on the needs. However, Lossie and Waddo had issues with their brand new builds as some belligerent officer measured it and according to "regulations" they were too small for the Officer types to accept as grade 1. All got downgraded and...

    TG1 goodbye Chf Tech

3-4-5 years a Chief. as if, not many did that few years before being picked up for FS. I managed 5 and a half years before realising I didn't want to become a grumpy FS. Loved asking Staff Sergeants how long they'd been a Flight Sergeant. They'd get proper wound up.

    Hiding in the Ladies

Being offended for offence sake. Or offended on behalf of others that are not offended or choose not to take offence is part of the problem. We seem to be the most easily offended generation in history. We get offended in response to what we assume about someone's words, intentions, or actions...

    Pulling the plug?

If you drive sensibly, on a long motorway drive you hardly use the brakes. Therefore there's no regeneration to be had.
