    Its a bit warm

It is very hot and humid here in Thailand, rainy season is underway, needed a blanket in the wee small hours. Happy days.

    NY Honours 2022

Would I be correct in saying the MSM award criteria have been dumbed down?

When did last person to see ww2 leave the RAF?

Coltishall 1972, a Master Pilot still in Ops, and on the SWO’s gang, an LAC with 1939/45 medals. A nicer chap you could not meet, happy as a pig in ….

Gas and leckie going up....Your thoughts?

34 degrees here today in Thailand, no longer have to live in the far north of Scotland, with severe winters, and the cost of electricity will be horrendous, no gas service that far north.

    BFG Instructions.

I went up to Berlin on the military train whilst based at Ramstein, still have the documents. I was drinking back then and it was a heady weekend, bitterly cold. Rules on board the train very strict, and were closely monitored. Saw all the usual sites, and visited some of the very exotic nightlife.

The RAF - No room for 'Guys'

Since when has it become necessary to converse with a commissioned officer when saluting?

    SEMA/SAMA

In one of my few sojourns into the Sec side of TG17, I had to use SAMA on my Fg Wg HQ job. It was severely under-powered and clunky. It had a floppy disc as the hard drive and a dot matrix printer. It gave the Chief Clerk, a chance to offload even more tasks from his fully manned office, to my...

    Pension increase 2021

I live in Thailand but will give that number a try, thanks. I did not receive a P60 last year, nor did `I receive their excellent 2 page A4 glossy which gives current relevant regulations and addresses. Looking to ensure my wife has up to date information available, just in case.

    Pension increase 2021

Are Equiniti still the MOD Paymasters? 2 e-mails to them and I have had no response, most unusual, as Equiniti were first class providers.

What Happens in Basic Training Today?

I was “knee’d” twice by the same Rock Cpl when I screwed up marching behind the most ungainly recruit ever, his legs and arms were all over the place and affected me badly. This was sorted by making me right hand marker. The same Cpl threw an SLR at me , in the classroom, it hit the poor sod...

For the older codgers amongst us

April 1972, went to Sherwood Forest twice, as I was backflighted due to slight injury. Having seen the first week through ok, I elected to volunteer as a steward for the second trip. Good decision, early mornings but most of the day was free of any hassle from instructors. Very mild conditions...

British Army will slash hundreds of jobs despite Boris Johnson's pledge to pump an extra £16.5bn into the UK's defences, leaked documents reveal

On 2 separate units, one overseas, I found myself with time on my hands, as StationCashier. I opened my cage earlier and closed it later than advertised. OK , until O C Admin picked up on it, gave me a rollicking and told me, in no uncertain terms not to open outside the posted times. As a young...

What inspired you to join the Royal Air Force?

Left school at 16 as a job in a local bank became available. Got bored after 2 years, was starting to drink heavily and saw an RAF advert in newspaper, popped up to Inverness and made enquiries. Passed all the tests for my chosen field, the original one trick pony in accounts. Did 24 years...

    AFPS Quarterly Digest - SSCL

Would that explain why Equiniti have not replied to 2 of my e-mails, regarding non-arrival of P60. Never had to contact them previously, superb service since leaving., until this event.

    What was the place...

GST2 in July 84, coincided with AOCs, therefore we did not have to endure Duffy Dyke so as not to have muddy boots dragged through the Mess. All training done on base. Weather was very kind thankfully.
