    Nicola Sturgeon to step down.

Heard the other day that Hamza Youssef is unusual for SNP leaders in recent years -- he's the only one that hasn't been arrested..😀

Shader aircraft shoot down Iranian drones

There is another similarity with the 80's (and current) communists - the perpetual blaming of external enemies who must be confronted and the use of 'them' as a pretext for internal repression at home. No matter what goes wrong at home with the economy or civil unrest it is always possible to...

Shader aircraft shoot down Iranian drones

I found it interesting that the attack was telegraphed in advance and the fact that the missiles had been launched was also well known. To me, it has the feel of a strike being launched to demonstrate that they have the power (and possibly to 'big themselves up' for domestic consumption) whilst...

    Princess of Wales. Cancer diagnosis.

I'm not so sure the main stream UK media (even the red tops) are the problem or need further regulating; I think the problem area has been the anonymous garbage merchants on X and FB etc. The foreign media and the idiots on (anti) social media are a tougher nut to crack sadly.

And just 1 week later so would I be... Just wish I could remember more of that 6 weeks.

    New Falklands medal

Why would 2018 be the cut-off point? Have the qualifying criteria been officially published anywhere?

    New Accomodation Model

I hadn't heard the HMRC connection. I thought it was to alleviate shortages of JR accommodation, partly to aid retention but also to avoid costly open market substitute accommodation being required for JRs when officers' mqs are empty (or vice versa) at the same unit. It also helps to cover up...

Gutersloh had a similar bad press generally but many people enjoyed it. I certainly did.

    New Accomodation Model

No, because both of you have chosen to spend your money as you see fit and made your own choice of where to live. In neither case is the house part of the 'reward package' that MOD gives you for your service. Would you have been happy to give up part of your existing pay at your next posting...

    New Accomodation Model

On paper and at first sight yes. But the issue was that it was to be achieved by taking something (larger houses) away from someone who already had it rather than making better provision for the 'have nots'. If you consider bigger houses as part of the 'reward package ' that officers get, then...

    New Accomodation Model

It existed, essentially, as a cost saving measure - each room was carpeted to a 'maximum rectangle' of carpet; i.e. there were no fitting costs and there was a maximum %age of the floor area that could be covered and the carpets could be ordered in standard widths. All to save time and money...

    New Accomodation Model

I suspect that the 2 years comment is linked to his next posting date and, hence, the point where he could end up in a smaller MQ. His pension linked to length of service may also be a factor. I don't think he's going just because of the change, rather it's a case of it being the final straw...

    New Accomodation Model

Ah.. I remember those days when times were different and, dare I say it, there were fewer (or was there, I don't know) instances of inappropriate behaviour because people were more segregated.

    New Accomodation Model

That all seems somewhat dubious in terms of what 'rules' were being applied? It would, I think, have been even worse for patch discipline for them to have remained in an airman's MQ.

    New Accomodation Model

A Captain (army) is hardly a senior officer though. Part of the issue I think is that for the RAF inter-rank relationships are generally less remote than they are in the army where enforced separation may be more desirable. Another factor is that the issue isn't just the number of rooms but...
