Joining the RAF in 1981 at age 16.5 and joining now 2024....How has it changed?

Not sure how many - if any - 16 year olds join nowadays. Back in the 80s it was common place. On my 1st posting to 115 Sqn, I think half of us doing regular flight servicings were under 18! Caused a few problems when the Management realised none of us should have been signing aircraft paperwork!

Something I've been meaning to ask about being time-ex.

Went Part time when I left in Jan (timex) - 3 days a week. Extra money to top up the pension and see where the cost of living crisis went mainly. Now the extra income is going on final house improvements. Am busier outside of work, with lots of volunteering activities for animal rescue centre...

Nope - left Jan this year. Those leaving now get their option straight away.

Sep 2023 CPI Rate on the horizon

For the first time, this year I will be, gotta be better than the CS pay rise and worth more actual cash in hand!

    Gulf War Syndrome.

Quite a few alarms etc Rigga - I think our standard check to see if it was clear to unmask was looking at the local population who had no masks. If they seemed ok, then it must be ok!

ET’d and denied early exit ahead of MWT

Is it? Then why have I had to complete the form as part of exit? Info given out by HR states you have to fill in the form and the QR states you need too despite it being accepted as part of TL. I guess you can do what you want, I'm just quoting Resettlement and Admin policy.

ET’d and denied early exit ahead of MWT

Terminal is last 28 paid days in the RAF, Resettlement can be taken anytime in your last 2 years and should be used for training etc not for actual work. I guess it is how you add it on JPA to when you can get another paid job

ET’d and denied early exit ahead of MWT

I filled in the form yesterday, says you can when on Annual and Terminal Leave, just not whilst on Resettlement

    Early Termination crisis inbound?

I was looking at going back Ressie 2 days a week but got a better offer from DE&S (3 days), which, with pension, leaves me on pretty much the same as when I leave. Quality of life improvement, for me anyway :-)

    Early Termination crisis inbound?

I'd be more concerned at the abated pension aspect of going FTRS after 35+years. Yes you get your lump sum but are capped on earnings so can't draw the full £26K+ pension. Ok, I get the argument that they'd still be on £55k+ a year but still.................

You can't get paid until TL starts and have to complete an Extra Employment form with CO sign off, even in TL.

ET’d and denied early exit ahead of MWT

It is 6 months for those who have done 30+ years

    Early Termination crisis inbound?

Just about to leave after 38 years....maybe I'm one of the last?

    Pay Rise Thoughts?

I don't TW but like, you, I would query that information given current info from that very location. I guess it was based on pre Apr 22 figures and not current rates, esp now post C19 opportunities have seen plenty of highly paid skilled jobs becoming available.
