Well, over years of successive cut backs, now the pigeons have come home to roost. No matter what the airships or politicians do now, they aren't going to get trained people in the timescale they look like needing them. It looks like the thin blue line is going to stay thin and will get very threadbare in places as people pvr or get redundo. As for the frames, well the airships can always get some higher paid Eng Os to survey them and do life extensions, just like they've done countless times before! :pDT_Xtremez_42:

Well as it is a NATO commitment why don't the Germanys or the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys provide some more airpower? After all it is not as if there military are doing any thing else.

since when have the cheese eaters ever been a part of NATO? Well I know they were supposed to be but they never were a "part" otherwise we would have been allowed to fly over France en route to Cyprus and Decci and not needed quite so many role changes to get there.

Well before they can do that, they first off ned to find some frames from somewhere, and here at sunny Lyneham out on the Pan I can see a grand total of 4 C-130K aircraft, of which 1 is long term dead, 2 are off down route and the final one is almost out of hours and is being used for local training only.

As to the C-130J, well as I understand it they are being detatched to Iraq and we have about 6 of them left here as well, 3 of which are long term dead in the hangers.......

Where we are going to get extra transport aircraft from I don't know, though the rumour mill quietly speaks about buying frames we sold to other countries back, or buying frames that the Yanks have spare in the Majove desert....

I really wouldn't like to fly in any of the frames we sold off to other less suspecting nations. Do you really think we would have sold off any good ones? As for the old part chops for the J, they really were quite fcuked.
How about forking out for a couple more C17s and getting rid of some illegals/assylum seakers to fund the purchase?

I think you'll find the Dutch are there in force. They lost 2 chinnies at the beginning of this year and are also the reason why we didn't deploy earlier. We had to wait for them to make a decision before we did.....

The Dutch were also big in Kabul in '02 when it all kicked off, working hand in hand with the Germans of all people.....

Oh yeh, the French are also there as well.....

Glad somebody high up has finally gone public and said we need more of everything basically!

Bit too late I fear, what with all the redundancies and high PVR rate, it wouldn't matter if they did or could go out and but more AT/Helicopters & Harriers - there'd be no-one left in to fix them!

The term "Up Sh1t Creek Without A Paddle" springs to mind!

Feel really sorry for the poor buggers out in Afghanistan at the moment and it's probably gonna get worse! If we thought Iraq was bad then we're in for a right shock! :pDT_Xtremez_25:

I actully seem to remember many news reports over the years in which the top brass said we needed more of everything as we were getting over streatched, undermanned and running short of equipment.

Each and every time the goverments response was to cut the military back, so now it looks like there is a chance we may lose the fight in Afghanistan, whats the bets that the goverment will in a year or two anounce that they are cutting the armed forces by another couple of thousand?
