Hi there,

(sorry if this is in the wrong place)

Does anybody know what branches we are recruiting for at the moment.

I would like to apply for a commission in either Flt Ops or Int but at last check they werent recruiting and there was no forcast as to when they'd start.

I'm TG1 (Avionics) Cpl at Benson.

Thanks

It changes constantly and your best bet is to get in touch with an AFCO, or even phone the recruiting number, it doesn't matter if you're serving already or not you all go into the same big pot.

Best off registering with the Careers Info Line (CIL). Then they will email you when your chosen branch is opened up. That is when the laborious process of actually applying starts.

Ask any AFCO for the number.

On the intranet, navigate to RAFC Cranwell site, then D of R.

Might have some info in there that you won't get from the AFCO. (I'm talking open branches, into training targets etc).

Or you could just ask the AFCO....

Why would we not tell you if a branch is open?! Also ITT is fairly irrelevant, should you make it past filter, you all get a fair crack at OASC.

Flt Ops is unavailable at present. Int will be if not it hasn't already been closed. You need to start the process at PSF, once they've confirmed you are eligible, they'll refer you onto the CIL (Careers Information Line). Only once you've been given a link to an online application by the CIL will you start going through the process with the AFCO.

In the meantime, I'm sure you're already at the OASC Prep Club, so use the time to prepare, knowlege of the RAF, knowledge of your chosen branches and IOT, spend time with officers in those branches, research NATO, air power and current affairs.

Your nearest AFCO can provide you with good information on IOT and a good base level of knowledge for training for your chosen roles, so it is always worth speaking to them.

Bear in mind mate that the Int branch is only open to recruiting from within the Int trades at the moment, and probably will be for the foreseeable future.

Hang in and be persistent. I tried hard to get a Commission. I was a Cpl too.

I had applied when I was in Singapore (SAC) but 'failed'.

I tried again when at Valley (A/Cpl) and was sent to Biggin for interview. I was chopped again at the medical (eyesight).

When in Akrotiri I tried again. (Full Cpl) I had to have an interview with the AOC and on the day I discovered that my beautiful newly cleaned uniform has a broken fly zip, so I went up to Epi in a suit.

I heard the AOC say to his ADC, "Tell him that If I can put my effin' uniform on, he can put his effin' uniform on. Tell him to eff-off'."

I eventually got my Iv three days later and was recommended for Biggen. It took a bit of grovelling, I can tell you.

At Biggen the first question I got from the Wg Cdr of the Board was "Son, this is your third attempt. What will you do if we turn you down again?"

I said, 'Sir. This is your last chance to get it right". :pDT_Xtremez_19:

I was Commissioned six months later.
