Does anyone know if a last tour can be stopped due to current unit not releasing?

I'm guessing it could happen as they would just state "service reasons".......Last tours are not guaranteed (well they never used to be and can't imagine that would have changed !)

Crack on.................:pDT_Xtremez_09:

^^ Yep, I think you'll find that service need comes first no matter what the reason.

It is up to the Manning Authority to decide where the biggest needs is; your boss, unit, CO can't just refuse to release you if you have a genuine entitlement to a last tour but Manning will take their point of view into account. If they deny the right to the last tour then they're saying that you can't be replaced where you are which is nonsense IMHO but there maybe some genuine cases out there.

If the Assignment Order has already been issued then it would take a good case from your Flt Cdr to have that reversed

If you are outside your last year of Service, last tour can easily be stopped, as stated Service Reasons covers a multitude of sins.

As HS says, Manning have the final say. In all my time in, I don't think I ever recall a losing unit being able to submit such a case. What I have seen is sensible negotiation over dates and, where applicable, application of the Chf Clk's rule (variation of the posting date by 28 days as long as the 2 units agree).

I trust phrases like "This NCO is indispensible" and "I cannot imagine how the section would function without him" fill your appraisal.

If not, then surely you can protest to someone at the uber end of the payscale as to why on earth your section are refusing to release you.

I have seen comments like that on appraisal forms, then seen the same section try to refuse someone promotion when he was promoted in situ!!!!!!

thankfully no refusal has happened yet..all the wheels are in full motion but the only spanner that could mess this up is if a refusal from the higher powers does occur, wouldn't normally worry but manning want him in the new post in 6 weeks time but having trouble getting the final decision
