Subsistence Allowance on Assignment

Posted with family UK-UK. Quarter to quarter over 200 miles.Removals arrive on a Tues , I have march in on Wed, but removals not expected to arrive till Thursday.
I believe my family and i are entitled to hotel accom (a night at either end) Clerks at either end giving me different stories ranging from

1.Book a hotel at either end cos even if u book contact house you might get gazumped by a more needy cause.(Received verbal = possible audit dramas)

2.You need a non availability chit for Contact House and Sgts Mess Family room at either end. --- I now have NAC(email) for both contact houses and one mess but other mess is refusing to do a non availability email/chit cos they have a double room available.

3.The receiving unit may provide your quarter with temp furnishings (for a night or two provided by Barrack stores/QM?) and bedding.Laughable.

Hotels are booked thru DHRS on advice of No.1 above. However will have to pay up front and so am worried about claiming back and then audit saga.

I suppose main question is ' Does Mess Accommadation come into this at all?'
I have studied JSP752 but it seems to contradict itself.
Cheers

Get the Clerks who told you to book the hotel to confirm this pearl of information via email. Just so you have something in writing when it comes to re-inbursement time.

In this day and age, we are all morally obliged to keep costs down wherever possible, and if that means using a Mess double room, then so be it.

Can I put it another way....if there was no entitlement to claim any costs back, what would you do?

A few years ago, there wasnt any entitlement to claim overnight accommodation costs, and I booked my family into the local travelodge for £9 whilst we waited for our furniture.

In your case there is a double room available in one Mess so you use it, and you have the NAC for the other end so book accommodation legitimately and claim the costs back.

Have sent PM with the appropriate JSP and chap and verse, why make live even more of a hassle when moving. At least get where you are sleeping sorted.
