I am very soon putting in my first postings for leaving Cosford finally!! Am pretty unsure on what to put down and am thinking about putting both High Wycombe and Leeming on my dream sheet.

Im not fussy where I go really but would ideally prefer Midlands, south, south west, london areas. I understand that it can be a bit of a lottery but would like to put something a bit interesting where I can get some good skills and have a good time for my first posting.

The knowledge that we get at cosford can be very varied where some people will say nothing other than just TCW.. I understand that its great and is a serious consideration for my number 1 slot on the dream sheet just wonder if there is anything else a little more south which can offer similar opportunities? :)

Being midlands or south is to be closer to home for when I do want to go home, I dont wanna be based at home near mummy and daddy as such! Thats not why I joined up!

Any suggestions would be ace!! Thanks!! :pDT_Xtremez_30:

Posh boy, good name by the way (Check out my Avatar!) just take what comes, in 9 years (Assuming that's what you'll serve at least) you'll get the good and bad postings. Have you thought about Henlow? Close to P'Boro and you'll get the variety of jobs/locations. I spent 5 1/2 years there and loved it.

Posh boy, 4everAD has words of wisdom. As this will be your first tour foraging into the wide (well it used to be) Air Force, apply for GRIS (sorry showing my age) Installation Flight at Henlow. You get to travel all over the place installing kit and see more camps than the London PRIDE parade!

Work can be varied and rarely are two tasks the same. Good for bringing on your engineering skills as there are guys who have been doing it for years and your experience will soar if you listen to them.

Good links to anywhere and London is 30 mins by train.

Enjoy.

Leeming is in the middle of nowhere but in the middle of everywhere because of its location on the A1. Great if you commute to one of the towns and cities in the area but crap if you live in the block

Some sage and considered views but what do you want? What are your priorities camp location, job type, local nightlife, motorway access etc etc. I knew a skinny lecky SNEC whose first thought when thinking of a move was did the camp have a bowling alley for him everything else was perhipheral. Awesome Avatar! :pDT_Xtremez_32:

Thanks for the advice, i would personally love to go Henlow, I have spoken to a mate just posted there he says that its awesome, a bit quiet but the people and job are really good.

I have thought about henlow before but have been told by different people that its quite an exclusive post that you have to be very lucky to get!

My priorities are to learn lots and hopefully move up the promotion ladder with any luck! And although this is my top priority I still do want to see my family and friends at home as well as meeting new people and leeming is just over 8 hours drive to home! That said if I get it ill just deal with it and as mentioned the dream sheet cant be reliable!

Anyway once again thanks for the advice!

Another top post for the new ICT boys like yourself is 1ACC mate. Loads of jobs, you get in amongst the kit the dets ain't half bad either and location wise smack in the middle of the country (for the next 3 years) again is cool for getting away at the weekend.

I had the same thoughts as you when I was coming up to the end of training, that the smaller/nicer places to get would be harder to get. It isn't necessarily true. Word gets out that it's not really a place you get very easily, and as a result people don't bother putting it down on their JPA preferences.

I've heard Henlow is good, but nothing on what it used to be.

You don't ask, you don't get !

Apply for what you want - it's a bit of a lottery, but you never know !
