Already have ICT certifications. Will it make my life easier?

I'm thinking of applying for the ICT technician role in the RAF.

I already have a LVL3 and LVL2 NVQ in IT Practitioners, LVL2 NVQ in Systems Operations, LVL1 NVQ IT User, as well as some other IT qualifications... As well as Microsoft Certifications (MCP, MCDST), and CompTIA A+ certifications.

Will this make my application any easier, I have 11 GCSE's but 4 were C, the rest were D. Will it do anything for me during the training? i.e. skip bits out. blah blah. etc etc.

Thanks for any replies.

Many years ago I went through my FT course with a chap who had surpassed any level of qualification we were about to attempt as part of the course...He still did it and with some modicum of humility...It was annoying when the rest of us were still wrangling with maths and science problems that should last about 3 hours to solve and he had closed his book and was daydreaming though!

I doubt they will cut you any slack and to be honest you don't want them to...Shared expereinces and hardship is what builds your team spirit so you should do all the courses everyone else does so you are all at the same standard and one (you) doesn't stick out from the crowd as being treated differently...You may find it painfully easy but instead you can help the weaker members of your course who may be struggling...We like to see this happen and that in itself, if handled appropriately, will set you out from the rest for being a good egg and not a smart ar$e...

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. It's a bit disheartening knowing that they mean **** all in regards to the armed forces. Especially as I done a lot of it in my own time as well. So it won't help me at all down the line in regards to promotion etc? Do you think. I'll be way too bored throughout the studying?

If you excel in your chosen field as a result of prior qualifications, it may help in the long run as your annual report is based on performance and potential.

I joined with prior IT skills in the 1980s, it was nice to be able to relax a bit during training and help others out during that phase. Others on my course also joined with their BTEC/ONC in electronics but still had to do the whole course as you need to be able to apply those skills to the military environment.
