Cds?

Cds?

Never mind the personalities, it's a pity a non-Army CDS is going. Until the half-witted politicians thought that the rest of the world would be 'frit' by a 'British Grenadier', we didn't get ourselves involved in major overseas engagements. Now that the Soviet Union no longer threatens to send mass tank armies across the now non-existent Inner German Border, we no longer need hordes of expensive fighter aircraft or nuclear hunter-killer submarines, say the Generals. What no-one in a blue suit is saying is - 'so why do we keep a bl**dy great garrison in Germany then? Why keep all those expensive anti-tank Apaches that you can't maintain? All those Main Battle Tanks sitting waiting in Germany for - what, exactly? Expensive Multi tube rocket artillery? How many times have they been used in the current assymmetric warfare?' We're in the 'stan because the last government wanted to look big on the world stage, simple as that. The Generas are hanging on because without the 'stan there is no justification for an island nation to have an Army bigger than its Navy and Air Force combined; if we are serious about expeditionary warfare, then the expeditionary service should be taking the lead - and as all expeditions will have to be overseas - unless we plan to invade the Republic of Ireland - then it woill need to go by air or sea - disband most of the Army, or sweep it into the Marines and Rockapes. Stop governments fandancing around abroad trying to look hard with other peoples' lives and get back to making this island safe. Instead of 'training' - put on regular live patrols of our airspace and littoral, armed, air and sea. Make a statement - 'Don't try it!' Seems to work for the Swedes............

Apache and MLRS are hard at work in the 'Stan mate!

I agree about the tanks etc. The rumour I heard was at least half of the Chally 2 fleet was to go into mothballs. :pDT_Xtremez_34:

Like an epiphany, I see a clear role for the challenger 2 in Stan.

With its clear advantage in resisting IED's like any leyland vehicle cannot, and its inate ability to "send message" without the need of the interpretur, would it not be simpler to just charge through Afghan villages with know insurgents at 60MPH (obviously with the main weapon oriented rearward as well, so as not to cause alarm to the populace), returing only to collect flat insurgents which, by dint of forwards momentum and downward force, would be that much easier to stack and carry away (without all that awakward need to check identities and legitimacy)?

Mind you. costly in fuel.
