Briefed at the ASACS Conference this week that Alice and Byron are to go down to 9 personnel per site. 4 x Tech, 1 x TACRO, 1 x Siggy, 3 x VT (or whatever they are called this week).

All personnel will complete a food hygiene certificate as part of their PET and so it's self-catering :pDT_Xtremez_42: There goes the top quality dining-in nights...

Mountain site Det Co (TG4 FS based at Kent) will have the 'opportunity' to rotate personnel through each mountain site - quoted as "a management challenge". Plenty chances to practice your packing then...:pDT_Xtremez_42:

Not sure what Kent manning will be or 303SU manning. Watch this space...:pDT_Xtremez_42:

So, from those of you who have experienced the delights of the beloved mountain sites in the FI - any thoughts? :raf:

Hillcove and foxbay have always been suppliers only, still get people down for the weekends and the rations are pretty good.

They are also going to become 'dry' posts as well.....enjoy!

Having done both sites (a few times) this IS a major change.

As previously stated life was made bearable by the dining nights (excellent food accompanied by the dull thud of personnel bouncing off the ISO walls).

The big question is "will the Cara Cara & Sheps bars still be open for the personnel on site"? Somehow I doubt this.

There is also only so many "Spog bogs" you can eat in 4 months!

It was the normal food (and extras) prepared for you by the Chefs that made the environment what it was. Two perfect examples being working on a major servicing at 03:30 to find chef standing there with bacon rolls and coffee and coming in from the lower helipad soaking wet and cold to fresh baked bread and coffee. He got a huge detachment write up from me!

If this is true then i'm not at all surprised they're getting rid of the admin slot. 4 months down there as bar manager! As easy as it was, it felt like a bit of a nause to be away from the missus for that length of time with no real job to do. If it does go 'dry' then that's gonna be really harsh, ditto with the comments on lack of Chefs too! Only good thing about being there.......

as a Vet of both sites, this is going to make the 4 months much less palatable.

Down to 6 service? that's going to make heli-ops runs down to the bottom sites fun. Medic going as well? That could be iffy from a H&S perspective.

I reckon I will be stiffed with one more trip down there before my time is up...damn.

No major changes at Kent from what I've heard, but bad news for the guys going to the west of Falkland Sound, including myself (most of what I've heard is already covered here).

Things are evolving slightly - allegedly...

Following staff visit, there looks like there will be a chef at each of the sites and the medic post is coming under scrutiny from the medical side of the house.

Also, rumour control states that it will not be a dry tour... :pDT_Xtremez_30:

Agree that heliops will be fun with less people. Let's just hope the sites close during annuals...

I never actually worked at Byron but was invited up there enough times to get a Byron name. Bad times with less manning and I echo what has been said before... absolutely top food up there. Best I've ever eaten at any military doo.
