I am now at a unit that was a while ago (18months) expecting a brand new LAC fresh from training however because they didn't pass thier RAFT they were stopped from passing out. The have been stories going around that they were getting kicked out because of a bad attitude but they fought the case and by the sounds of it have won as they have just been posted...

anyone heard anything like this before? and does that mean that the rest of us no longer have to pass the test and or will the test now be the same for both men and women?

When I went through basic training over 11.5 years ago I remember one WRAF (Nicknamed Warchild) who couldn't even do 1 of the old Female press ups (45' Angle against the a bar in the Gym). She was a big old unit though so whichever AFCO let her in must have had an incredible sense of humour.....:pDT_Xtremez_35:

Yes, they did let her through.

Phase 2 trainees must pass the fitness test before graduating. If they fail then they go onto a holding flight until they can pass. They also fall under the new fitness policy so 24 weeks later, could find themselves out of a job. We have already held someone back, the AC passed 1 week later and went to their new unit. When we were briefed about this policy we were told it was direct from 22 Grp so should be Airforce wide.

Seems that idea or something very very similar is policy for further training students (SAC's on a fitters course for old sweats) at the secret west midlands training base as well. The fitness test is a part of the course to pass the course you must pass all the elements, academics, technical, physical etc. I have heard a whisper that one individual is passing the techy bits of the course but not RAFT so may not leave with the his colleagues. But hey e-goat is a rumour site

Not a rumour Tin Basher we currently have two of the front lines young thrusters on hold as they cant pass RAFFT.
They go on to a 12 week programme of PT,they can take a test as many time as they like, once they pass they leave with there £5800 pay riseapparently this is noy an insentive to the butterballs
.
it's quite amusing how the front line keeps sending us such fine all round specimens.
I now for a fact speaking to the club swingers these two are only the first of many.
If you cant pass the test IMHO out you go fatty but we shall see.

So if simple personal pride is not enough incentive and from your post it's not. What the horlicks is going on to when an almost £6K carrot is still not enough motivation for some of the salad dodgers.

SAC(T)'s not doing their NVQ was just as bad. Some had to almost be forced to bloody do it and offered a huge pay rise if done in time...

Perhaps the RAF should adopt the Army policy

I went on a course (T.A. I hasten to add) and the first thing done within an hour of arrival was the fitness test 1.5 mile run, press ups & sit ups

Those who failed went back the same day

The instructor told them as they were R.T.U'd that they knew it was part of the course and had plenty of time to prepare for it

Fail to prepare then prepare to fail and all that

Slightly off topic there are no T.A. bounties or bonuses paid without passing the fitness test and CFT perhaps if the RAF started witholding money they might screw the nut

Remedial Trg for Fatties

Remedial Trg for Fatties

I would suggest that the RTFFT failures got fit in their own time - ie at 8 o'clock at night instead of going down the pub, or at 0600 so they had to haul their drink-sodden shapeless @rses out of their stinking scratchers!
........but I suppose it's against their fcekin' human rights!

I'm fed up with seeing these oxygen thieves taking productive time to go to the gym, in the process stopping the fit ones from doing the same as the are needed to man the desk!

So the fit ones should get to go to the gym during work time but not the fatties? Double standards me thinks.

Seen as in most places there is a mandatory Gym Time needed per week, that'd be your poor time management not letting them go to the gym...

Take away something that they hold dear. No promotion and no going up the pay scales unless they are fit. Simples.

I last successfully completed my fitness test about 2 Weeks ago and after I went to my local Asda for the usual and what did I spy? A very overweight SNCO WRAF stocking up her trolley from the biscuit aisle. The fat cnut.

From a front line Sqn - "pot, kettle, radio check?" Some of the "fine specimens" that we've been sent lately are hardly capable of changing a light bulb without 100% supervision so what hope have they got of servicing a jet properly. One of ours has been through the training cell twice as he just can't get to grips with it.

Please can you stop sending them to us if the can't pass their test? Then we wouldn't be in such a hurry to get shot of them. Currently on Ops but couldn't take some of the good ones as they are due back for FT and we couldn't guarantee roulements.

You should see the Ped O at that secret military base near Wolverhampton!
