SIF Mini Bus Hire

Hi, maybe someone can help?

Myself and 12 friends are carrying out a charity event in August in aid of a children's charity. I'm a serving member of the RAF, the rest of the guys are civilian (one civil servant). I am after a minibus for a weekend.

Here at Cosford, MT are NOT willing to let me sign out a minibus for the weekend as its for charity, not a duty etc etc. Fair enough then.

Next i tried the SIF, however, at Cosford, the SIF and mini bus has long since gone.

Do any other units still have a SIF? with a minibus hire facility?, and one that i could book even though i am from another unit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, quotes from normal hire companies (£300) would take up a lot of the money that we are trying to raise in the first place!

Cheers

Why not ask the COs fund to cough up the cost of the Hire Vehicle? I'm fairly sure that just asking may rock someone into persuading MT to be a bit more flexible

That's a question in itself but I'm sure a highly paid MT geezer will be along soon to tell us why they are pretty rigid about flexibility!:pDT_Xtremez_09:

MT at Tossford is contracted and most of the multi seat vehicles are hired in, they should at least be able to sort out a greatly reduced rate

Why not ask a Hire company to sponsor by way of a mini-bus for the event, must be some tax break that they can get for a charitable donation never mind the free publicity.
Ask a few the worst thing they can say is no.

Thought you can't have civvies in MT wagons anyway due to insurance.

True. You need a command authority (do you still have commands?) - this is how we managed to run school buses in Germany. Someone needs to carry the can above the level of the MTO to accept the risk of dead civvies.

Unfortunately not Hu. TBH I called a couple of companies this afternoon as well , enquiring about sponsorship/MOD discount without much success. Best i got was 10% off nearly £400!!

Due to legislation/insurance/red tape/civilianisation, the RAF's little perks (borrowing a landy for the weekend etc) have gone.

I'm hoping another camp is still running a SIF wagon hire facility.

I had this problem trying to organise some charideee work. Unfortunately, you cannot use funds from the public purse to fund any assistance toward charity events (you might just as well ask the taxpayer to give some of their hard-earned straight to the charity, not the empty MOD coffers).

I seem to recall that NONPAS were able to help us with money towards the event, although minibus hire was nowhere near what you are quoting.

I do believe Waddington still have a SIF mini bus, we used it a year or so ago and it was controlled by one of the SNCO's in MT. I hope this helps

BlueTonic,
Please see pm that I am going to send out soon.
I will include a contact name and that may just want to help you in your quest. They loaned out two assets for a Romania run and even paid the channel tunnel fare. It is worth a try and they always want publicity.

RAF Wittering also have a SIF bus which they allow other Units to hire if you get no joy from somewhere more local.
