My Wobbly phoned last week regarding something else and asked how thing were going, on my behalf. Apparently, after 2 years of being an 'A' cat, this year I 'm down to being a 'B'. Not fkin happy, but that's life.

Some curious results from this board I've heard. Dropping down the list I can understand but dropping from A to B seems strange.

It's not that strange at all - it's largely a question of arithmetic. IIRC the number of A grades is set at roughly double the size of the promotion quota. So, if you are looking to promote 200 one year then the top 400 candidates from pre-boarding would be A grades. These (along with some Bs and Cs) will be read and scored by the PSB and put in 'merit' order.

Just imagine (for simplicity) that an individual was 380th off the PSB. All things being equal (ie everyone's performance remained constant and no one left/died) you could see that that individual could be 180th on the following year's pre-boarding. However, if the promotion requirement dropped to, say, 85 for that year then only the top 170 would be A grades. Nothing would have changed in the performance of the 180th candidate; however, the competition was tougher for the smaller field.

The pre-board grades don't reflect an individual's performance just their competiveness against that year's quota.

Hi folks, new to this forum but at Waddo there is a great deal of consternation about this board. Many of the highly placed candidates from last years board ie mid 50's and 60's are now "B" grade and I have dropped 80 places!
I wondered if any of you out there have similar stories?

Surely if people were highly placed candidates ie mid 50's & 60's, then they would have been promoted by now. After all, 75 promotions were scaled for 09/10.

This years pre-boarding was totally revamped, many good candidates with a previous hindering appraisal will have benefited.

That clarifies it a bit, didn't realise they only reached 54, that isn't good. PMA also doubtfull this year, about reaching 85. Due to Kinloss surplus & Cottesmore.

Good luck to all that have been selected this year, hope the deal is good & not all Odiham/Benson etc.
