She has made a rod for her own back. Should she ever be promoted every single person she works with will be thinking you only got made up because you sued the Navy, and they will treat her with disdain.

From the article: "She also asserted that she was seen as less worthy of promotion on the grounds of her non-seagoing status."

So basically, if you join the Navy as a sailor and don't ever go to sea (there are a few non Sea-going WRENs btw) then you should be just as eligible as people who perform the full spectrum of duties expected of them? Bollox!

Sums up everything that is wrong with the modern armed forces IMHO.

Did it ever occur to her that there might only have been 1 or 2 WO posts and they might both have been at sea?

Maybe if she had put out a bit more then she would have been ok. Seems to have worked for some of the Wrafs round here......

Mr Bains said she had received excellent appraisals throughout her career, having been promoted to each and every rank faster than every one of her competitors and regularly outperformed other male peers.

How can she been crying for discrimination when she has clearly had an already successful career?

I could understand if she had been stuck in rank for 10 years and she had been completely by-passed.

Knob.

For those of you old enough to remember, I wonder if she was WREN who kept her original terms of service when the WRENS/WRAFS transferred to the real RN/RAF. One of the terms of service for WRENS was they were non-seagoing.

If so surely she considered the possible implications that being non-seagoing could have in the future; no doubt she reaped the benefits of being non-seagoing, but cant accept the negative repercussions.

Perhaps she never considered that she would have a full career, so short term it suited her to remain WREN; should the service then have to pay the price for her shortsightedness?

Either way, I think its disgusting that it has boiled down yet again to PC madness. She has played the sexual discrimination card and I hope to god she falls on her arse.

This whole thing massively stinks. Mybe she's just shrewdly playing the pc lefty culture at its own game, knowing she'd have a pretty good chance at winning her case in this day and age...

BTW, has anyone noticed her close resemblance to Gwendoline, the wool shop lady out of Wallace and Gromit...? :pDT_Xtremez_19:

As a retired Matelot when I was in you couldnt pick your rate up in most branches unless you had the sea time in. Some branches it was almost all sea time, 3 years at sea 2-3 months inboard then another sea draft, others if you did 2 years in your rate at sea you had done a lot.

My old man was a CPO MEM and all I can remember for my first eleven years of life was the fact he spent nearly all of it at sea.
