Vulcan Needs More Money.

I banged the drum for them on here quite a lot but unfortunately, until they have a drastic change of management, they won't be getting anywhere near as much support from me.
The management have let down the hardworking volunteers big time whilst at the same time drawing substantial salaries from the funds. You only have to look at the Permit to Fly fiasco at Waddo for proof of their lack of competence.
Then to launch this appeal in the run up to Christmas with weeks to spare before the first deadline really extracts the urine.
Like I said, it's the army of volunteers I feel for, who are a fantastic bunch of people (quite a lot of whom sponsored me for my GNR), who have given up a lot of their time thinking they were raising funds for the aircraft, for it to be squandered by the management.

A real shame given the season she had this year.

They need more money eh? Oh there's a shock, not! Many predicted this the last time they launched an appeal.

Dont get me wrong, I loved the Vulcan at the airshows when I was a kid(the way it made my bones rumble and nearly made me wee myself) but I can think of several thousand troops out in a sandy place right now that would be more deserving of the funds.

It seems that the plee for funding for the Vulcan seems to be becoming an annual event (if not more regular).
Much as I am pleased to see the Vulcan flying, if it cannot become self supporting then I think its days are going to be few.

Here we go again...
I contributed a significant amout last year, AND alongside the hope of seeing it display in Lincs, AND through its diabolical mismanagement of documentation, AND failing to get the permit to fly in time vowed not to contribute to any future 2010 'rolling goat' scenario.
At a time when finances are tight for many, I'm afraid this falls way down the list of priorities.

The only 'public' money received was the £2.2 million from the Lottery Fund, which would have probably gone to something like the Gay Disabled Asylum Seekers Amateur Theatre Group anyway. The rest is from fundraising and corporate sponsorship (albeit on a small scale).

I know the "funds" don't yet exist, but my point was that there are better things in this world to "donate" money to rather than keeping an ancient hunk of junk up in the air.

haha. You are probably right! Im sure Headly Court and Selly Oak could use that money a lot better than the Vulcan fund could.

Again, what money?
What else would be on the list to chop after the Vulcan was scrapped? Where do we stop for perceived lack of funds? Fcuk me, life would end up being so boring. There always appears to be cash available to throw at the banks but that's a different thread.

The "hypothetical" money....stop picking holes!!

Everything needs to be scrapped eventually! If its old stop throwing money at it and bin it. Live for the future not for the past.

Well judging by our gross national debt I would say that the money was not "available" but there was no alternative (a be it very annoying).

Nope.

It goes without saying that the future is important but so is our past/history/heritage, call it what you like. People will contribute to what is important to them, not necessarily what the popular consensus is. If the Vulcan project folds then I personally will be saddened by it but if that's the way it goes then so be it but to take a broadbrush stance about everything that is past it's best or it takes cash to keep it going would make the world a boring and dull place IMO.

No comment about the banking fiasco, different thread.
