movements training

Hey all

got halton to deal with first this november!

but just wondering if anyone can gimme some details on what to scrub up on for the movements training at brize, i can make more than 5 brews at once, so no help needed there.....

also would like to know what happens after this training and the best routes to take to work on the hercs and globemasters

Right then, here goes! My Basic Movements Training (BMT) course started off with Key Skills, so do a bit of revision if its been a while since school. The rest of it is manifests, paper and plenty of "learn and dump." Towards the end of the course, you'll do the more practical stuff involving messing around in the DMS Hangar and playing with the Herc mockups. During your final phase, you'll get asked for your posting preferences. Fancy doing your bit for the war effort somewhere hot and dusty? Choose 1AMW at Lyneham. Fancy busting your balls and working your arse off for 12 hours a day supporting the war effort? Choose AMS at Brize. I did the latter and loved every minute of it, it all depends on what you want to do though.

Once you've seen the "real world" for 18 months and completed your "Record of Achievement" you'll go back to the DMS on your Further Movements Training course. After 3 months of mindnumbing boredom with trims, you'll be thrown back into the real world to carry on as an FMT, whether that's at one of the main bases or on an MSF somewhere around the country. During my course, I volunteered for JHSU at Odiham as soon as I could, working with and for the Army is an experience that everyone needs to do in my opinion!

Movements is quite a varied trade and if you're switched on, willing to learn and you're not cocky or have an attitude, you should do well. Whatever you do, don't let the training get you down, its a lot better when you're actually doing your job for real.

Glad to have helped, hope you bring a positive attitude to our trade, life has been difficult for everyone in recent years and we don't need any negativity from the new guys coming through the DMS sausage factory!

haha no worries about that, my cousin used to be a mover and i know it can be **** sometimes! but ah well you just gotta get on with it!

nah but by sounds of it morales a bit low at mo....

but hey i cant say owt i aint even got thru halton yet!

Sorry, I missed this post! Several big changes have taken place over the past few years and a lot of people have ended up doing excessive back-to-back tours, some accruing 80 leave days having spent 200-250 days away in a year. Nature wastage kicks in, the trade lowers the standard and recruits and the loyal left behind pick up the pieces...

We're not the only trade to suffer in this way, but it's the only trade I can really comment on.

Oh right, do you work with the reserves guys btw ? and how good are they ? I start my movements training in Nov and wondered how these guys are looked upon, Im an ex regular and now a reservist and wondered if there was any kind of credibility gap, you can be totally honest mate I,d rather know either way
