Of course they dont deserve it. Along with the shineys, where are their airworthyness responsibilities when they sign paperwork????

Why does evrything have to be about airworthyness to get the higher payband, what about rock, are you saying they shouldn't get it also? Theres a lot more responsibility out there in the modern Airforce than techies fixing A/C.

Who checks the fuel for contamination and FSII content? Who signs the paperwork as having checked it and in OOA environments who is responsible for blending the fuel to the correct ratio?

This film is as true today as it was when it was made.

As an aside, in the process of deciding if a trade should be up-banded, many aspects (such as retention problems, comparative pay to the civil sector and a number of other factors) are considered along with 'airworthiness responsibilities' because 'airworthiness responsibilities' alone couldn't be used as a decider because everyone has an impact on flight safety/airworthiness, or haven't you been in long enough to have been shown that film in basic training?

To be honest though I find the fact 'techies' get so upset about trades getting moved to 'their' pay band pretty odd but also quite amusing.

Money isn't being taken out of your pockets, you'll still be earning the same. If only 'techies' were on the higher pay band would you all still be happy with what you are being paid or would you be up in arms demanding more? Its not a slight on the worth of 'techies', just a realisation that the world has moved on and other professions are now viewed with greater importance than they once were.

An unfortunate (depending on your POV of course) side-effect of modern warfare is that the logistics footprint is now much larger and more complex than it once was and to ensure as smooth a running as possible its necessary to retain the best logistics people you can to run it. Good Cpls/Sgts within the RAF logistics organisation are much sought after in the the civil sector and the pay is a fair whack more than currently offered by the MoD. This has to be counted otherwise the occasional "its no good pointing, USAS says there are none in stock" will become far more frequent. Companies such as MAS, DHL, BAe etc can and do 'headhunt' staff in the RAF and I know of a few personally who have slipped away to pastures new, lured by significant wage increases.

For all this chat though nothing has been confirmed. If Cpls/Sgts in the Supply Trade do get moved to the higher pay band I believe that its fair. SACs in some posts do have a fair bit of responsibility (CLA on TSW for example) but these are few and far between and as such are the exception rather than the rule. I also believe its right and proper to keep FSgts on lower pay band and move WOs down as at that level, as with all trades, the role is predominately administrative.

Norm - Is it wrong that I got a little bit firm watching that film?

Damn all that time I've spent at West Moors, its turned me into some kind of PPTK-loving pervert.

Off TopicThe airworthiness aspect has been largely taken out of people's hands by adopting laid down procedures. If these procedures are followed, the risk has been taken by others. It is only when procedures are deviated from that the risk is borne by the individual responsible for the deviation. Not everyone has Reds & Greens.

I think my previous post has been missed in the Techie crossfire. So, if the rumours are true that we are going to the 'Techie/MTD/Chef/Rock' payband. Do we automatically transfer over to the same level as we are on now? ie Level 7 lower to level 7 higher, thus giving a huge payrise or do we transfer to a lower level but with a 2% rise? ie Level 7 lower to level 3 higher?

Wingmong - If you are still on the wing you should have the info breaking at your location. I have just had a text from someone there! Go check with your WO...

You would go in at the same level you are on now so if you are level 7 now you will be level 7 when you shift across.

As per TS brief today still no decision!!!! Sorry folks as per previous posts it's still down to the money.

Despite having cleared all the fences, the winning post has been moved at the last minute.

"little more than shuffle paper, spoil food and move boxes"

That sort of comment angers me, the looking down the nose comment, from the highly trained, highly paid techies with no common sense. Everything would grind to a halt without ALL the support staff doing their very necessary jobs.
I agree you deserve to be paid more, but whoever started this pay creeping is to blame, it was very narrow minded of them, all they were interested in was retention of certain trades, all they have done is upset every one else.Everyone not getting the higher payband & those already with it.
Yes, i believe we are worth more money and i hope we get it.

Congrats if it's true, but just typical as I was one of the SNCO posts that was used for the evaluation, then I leave now a civvie, and we get up banded doh!!! Great decision to leave ha ha :pDT_Xtremez_35:

Can I just reiterate Gillo’s post, NO decision has been mad yet, as usual, the financial side is where we are at the moment… where is the money gonna come from if we are indeed 'up-banded'?

Rest assured, it is still on the table but don’t hold your breath guys n’ gal’s…
