Ive been thinking about joining up and training to be an RAF supplier, Im 27 (28 in Dec) married and going to become proud Dad in November.

Im aware that if I pass all the tests I would go away to RAF Halton for my 9 weeks basic training but I was wondering what happened after I passed out? Has anyone else applied for the Supplier role and could tell me the process after the 9 weeks training.

Curious to know how long the training period is after the 9 weeks, if I would be able to apply for a married quarter or may need to rent locally to have my wife and new baby with me.

Anyone help?

Hi there,

I am Also joining as a Logistics Supplier, I was told by the AFCO that Married Quarters (Commonly now known as SFA - Service Family Accommodation) isnt available while on Basic Training (Phase 1 RTS, Phase 2 Trade Training). If this is wrong could someone please correct me.

After 9 weeks RTS at Halton, we stay at Halton but move from the RTS to FDTF

Phase 2 - Trade Training I believe 16 weeks

SFA is not available until completion of trade training. Also all Phase2 trainees are expected to live in Barrack Blocks and train and live together as a team, it's part of developing RAF Ethos ie training for when you will deploy together on Operations and may have to live together in tents. The RAF needs to know you can be a full team member and that's why communal living is part of trade training. Consequently you almost definitely won't be given permission to 'live-out' whilst on Supply Training. Even if you were allowed you probably couldn't afford the rent in Wendover/Aylesbury!!! http://www.fish4.co.uk/homes/lettings/advert?adId=24195281&src=nestoria

Don't worry about your age when i went through Halton last year there was a 30 year old and a 35 year old there.

I believe supplier phase two is pretty short and unfortunately you are kept at Halton with some silly rules still applied that other phase two trainees don't have (midnight curfew being one i know of).

If you join Supply be aware that promotion is rubbish the job can be quite boring at times best place I worked was the Wing and I loved it plenty of characters and lots of opprtunities, but once you pass out of Supply training its a job you go to not a career, you will love your first camp because it is so different than what your used to at Halton, best advice I can give you is keep an open mind, you do not get SFA while on training unit and you have to pay for your first move from your old house to new SFA. (I kid you not!!!)

Depending on the individual and how hard you work for promotion. I know plenty of stackers who have been promoted in 5 years which is about as good as you can get.

All jobs can be boring but there are plenty of good jobs in Supply and lot of opportunities for travel if you look for them. A few of our guys are enjoying some time in the States over the next few months... don't think that's so boring do you?

Again this depends on the individual and what you want to get out of the air force.

I dont understand why the military should pay for this anyway? You are choosing to join up and therefore know you will have to move somewhere from your civilian home. The air force pay for your moves after this as they are posting you. You have the choice to leave your family in the house you were living in before you joined up if you so wish. No one is forcing them to come with you.
