After the Human Rights On the Battlefield act that was debated in the EU, some families have put forward cases for compensation after their loved ones died due to the pathetic armour in Snatch Landrovers

But won't that cost the MoD - and therefore the poor blokes' mates? There's got to be a better way for them to do this.

Ultimately, it is the job of the government to ensure that, when it commits the troops of this country to armed conflict, they have the equipment that is suitable for the task that needs to be done. The risk to life can never be reduced to zero and its impossible to cover all eventualities, but it is a constant theme within the UK military that the kit personnel are given to use is not up to the task. Radios, boots, body armour, vehicles, the list is endless. The government has to realise that if it wants to help play the part of world policeman using UK service personnel as the bodies on the beat, then it has to find the money to prperly equip those troops. Either that or butt out of situations that are beyond our resources.

If the MOD is run like the NHS then there is a central fund for compensation, so money isn't taken away from station budgets etc. It is worked out seperately.

So this means that equipment etc shouldn't suffer.

Forgive my cynical view.........this wouldn't be all about 'the money' would it?

As usual it's all about "not wanting this terrible thing to happen again to some other family"......

When these people donate all the compensation they get to a worth while charity, I will start taking them seriously.

I have no doubt that the families feel grief, anger and frustration, but being led into court by an ambulance chasing lawyer is not the road to closure.
As the previous member says, this course of action only goes to undermine all the good publicity and wide public sympathy these people have.........Once the 'C' word is mentioned, I for one switch off to the cause and think money, money, money.

££££££££££££.........Kerching!

Of course there is an element of opportunism about suing the MOD in cases like this. But, if it sends a rocket up the backside of the relevant departments and the treasury for that matter, then it may in the long run be a good thing.
