\back again on my solo thread :)

\back again on my solo thread :)

right, me again, used the 'search button is your friend' and the info i have been finding is pretty fragmented so another question to ask. I have passed the medical although they didn't take my blood test on the day and have to go back for that as well as innoculations according to the nurse i spoke to.

The question is though 'what happens next'.

I have been trying to speak to the recruiter and not been able to get hold of him due to him being on holiday or out of the squadron, no callback as yet either. Desperate to know where i stand and what happens next in the recruitment process. Presuming i have a fitness test to do, running a set distance, bleep test? Don't know either.

Any info for the biggest impatient 41 year old kid greatly appreciated, just can't wait to get fully through the process and join up and trying to figure out how much longer it is likely to take :pDT_Xtremez_30:

Hi,

Yes you are quite right that info on most aspects of reserve recruitment is fragmented, a point I raised recently.

The way things are done does seem to vary from squadron to squadron, the interview is quite straight forward just general q's about yourself and background and why you want to join etc.

The Ast is not difficult as such BUT its usually the time factor that gets most people, it took me two attempts to pass you will can have three attempts at it; diffrent trades need different scores and some parts of the test are more relevant to what you want to do than others. Practice under test conditions you should the be ok there are plenty of books out there with Ast type questions out there.

If you pass everything they then check your refs and and get your security clearance this can take a couple of months.

As regarding the fitness test and I'm only speaking from experience here but depending on trade you wont do that until you got to Halton for your two week recruit cadre.

good luck

Hi, where are these useful places you speak of? I would like to brush up on my knowledge before I head to the AFCO.

To be fair to us on the Goat I don't think we have many reservist members and those of us who are 'regulars' probably don't have a clue how reservist stuff works...I know I don't and yet I fly with a few...

Mogwai since you have got through the process why not fill in your experiences and thoughts about it on here so we at least have a start to information collation?

I'll have a think about what reservists I know and see if one won't join up on here to fill in some gaps...

Reserves recruitment process

Reserves recruitment process

Ok here we go then, my experience so far. Please remember this may not be the way it works for everyone for all i know and is only MY experience. Hopefully it is at least partially helpful to others on how the general process works. I imagine it may differ slightly from area to area.

After giving some thought to joining up for the past while I noticed an advertisement looking for recruits (Force Protection and Gunner) I then called the recruiting line number given on the advertisement (centralised number). This call resulted in an information pack being sent out.

After reading through the pack I called the recruitment line again to state I was still interested in taking things further. Be aware that unless you get back to them at this stage you will not hear anything else from them. The onus is on you to contact them if you have further interest in advancing things. From here I was then given the number for the local squadron with whom I then got in touch with. The squadron then organised for an application pack to be sent out to me and answered a couple of questions as well as asking me a couple J

I completed the application and sent it off. 2 weeks later I received a phone call from the squadron asking me to come in to sit the aptitude test and interview.

Interview done, test completed, passed and onwards again J

2 week later (approx) medical sat and passed.

Please be aware that I have handled most of this by contacting the squadron directly, only visiting the squadron for tests etc. They do hold regular open/information evenings as far as I am aware but I have managed to move the process along without having to attend one of those. I have met one person who has been to one of the evenings and was given lots of info including example questions etc to look at.

So, currently I am waiting on my security clearance. At the moment they are taking about 6 weeks on average to come through with mines being away for about 4 or 5 now so shouldn’t be long. I have been told that as soon as this comes through they will get me in fairly quickly, hand on bible and my soul sold to the devil for 5 years, can’t wait J

After this I then have training to complete over several weekends. After completing this I can then select a date from the available dates to go to RAF Halton for a further 2 weeks training.

So, In the best tradition of television………………….. ‘To be continued’ :pDT_Xtremez_14::pDT_Xtremez_30:

@ Mr Dan. Your spelling isnt an issue I think, I believe E-Goat only asks for no "text talk" and at least show some effort in your post, however your PGAC has nothing to do with this post.

On topic, nice general overview for any reserves out there. If it counts for much, this is the pretty much the exact same process I went through when it came to joining the TA. Aswell as the various weekends leading up to a 2 week course for basic.

I should add to this, OP said he done all of this without going to one of the "open nights". Well thats all well and good if you dont have time, but it is highly encouraged. All of the original questions you asked would have been answered by talking to the blokes already there as reserves, and its good to get to know the place and people knocking around as you will be spending a lot of time with some of them.
