Is this the one on the last Thursday of every month at Cranwell or one in an AFCO?

Well firstly once you've had this one get the AFCO to sort you a place at the last Thursday of every month Cranwell WSOp presentation as it's a good tick in the box to get for your application...

What to expect? Hard to say but it'll depend on who's giving it...There are few WSOp's working in AFCOs so it'll be another [ground] trade...They may make a very good stab at it but it's no substitute for having a bloke who's been doing the job giving you the good news...

Whoever does it will give an overview of the training system from basics at Halton through to professional training at Cranwell and beyond to an OCU somewhere...They'll explain the different types of WSOp and what qualities you require to be successful in your application...They'll show you pictures and probably vids of planes and helo's thrashing around...most of it will be crewmen centric due to that branch being very much in a pinch point at the moment...They'll probably cover the selection process at OASC as well.

Wear a suit, give yourself a rub down with a damp cloth and have a shave if you're old enough...Once you done that pin your ears back and soak up the information...That activity starts on that day and never really stops throughout your time as a WSOp...

Hope this helps...

yeah this helps mate,
just wanted to know if theyd be firing random questions... and whether i needed to go armed with ''current affairs'' or ''in depth'' knowladge etc,
but i can see now the presentation is more them givin me an insight into the role,

do you think the crewman shortage will effect their decisions when accepting or rejecting people? eg, More pass rate?

I doubt you'll have to speak other than stating your name on arrival...

No...they have a standard they recruit at and they stick to it...what that standard is is anyone's guess and often debated!

There are generally no shortages in people willing to pitch up for slection...This is backed up by the often lengthy waits endured before you are called forward to OASC...

It really is a case of have a go and see if you've got what it takes...

hey guys... sorry to re-start this thread but 1 or 2 more questions (my presentation is tomorrow)

should i take pen and paper to take notes (or do they provide this?)

im goin in a suit... i have a shaved head and i have abit of stubble to go with this as this is my usual style... should i shave this off or will it not mind to much?

is there anything else i need to take?

Many thanks Paul

The pen and pad question is valid...take one.

As for the other question...You are starting off on a long journey to employment with us in a priveleged position...When your very expensive training is complete you get to play with some mind bogglingly expensive equipment...To get that far you're going to have to stop thinking like a student and start thinking like who you want to be and try to exude the qualities you think you'll need to fulfill our requirements...

Now do you think you should bother to have a shave and put a suit on?
