Hello,

Im interested in joining as an officer in the RAF Regiment. Just wondering what the A-Level requirements are, is it just 2 A-Levels in pretty much any subject for RAFReg? I have 2 A-levels in Law & Product design, would these count? What are the min grades for the 2 A-Levels, need clarification if it is C, or E (a pass). Specifically relating to the RAFReg would I be right in thinking that at OASC it is really just your determination, fitness, and leadership that counts? I mean aslong as you have the minimum grades for A-Levels and GCSE's, is that sufficient, or are they looking for you to excel in your studies?

Cheers

Just a wild stab in the dark question, what did it say on the careers website or when you spoke to the AFCO?

You talk of initiative.. maybe you should read the page before you post your answer, I have read that page countless times. Take a look at:

5 GCSEs/SCEs and 2 A-levels or 3 Highers or equivalent. GCSEs/SCEs at Grade C/3 minimum to include English language and maths

It says the GCSE's are at grade C, but incase you haven't noticed, it doesnt state the grade for the 2 A-Levels, just that you need 2 A-Levels... so should I assume that anything E or above (a pass) is sufficient?

It is a simple, and straight forward question, maybe you should read it properly before replying in an arrogant manner.

And what did the AFCO say?

My apologies, you don't say anywhere that you'd looked at the careers website or been in touch with an AFCO. Many folk come on here as their first port of call rather than go to the people with the latest info. At least by going to the AFCO you should get up to date info rather than run the risk of getting out of date info. Requirements change over time and the AFCO will have the latest. As it says on said page, call for advice 0845 605 5555.

Yes. Were it otherwise the website would make it explicit. Have you visited your AFCO yet, you may find they know what they are talking about?

And instead of biting the head of someone who is actually serving in the RAF, unlike you, why don't you go and talk to the lovely folks in the CIO? They know what the requirements are.
Oh, and initiative and intelligence are needed for any Officer role in the RAF, mind you, you have the arrogance to a tee.

You mean in the same arrogant manner in which someone decided the guy was was just being lazy and hadn't bothered to do any homework of his own. It was a simple question and all it required was a simple answer, not a dismissive "go and look at the website", nor a reprimand from someone like yourself, seen as though its not your place to do it.

In answer to the question, from what I know a pass is sufficient, however your best bet would be to check with the guys in the careers office, just to make certain.

All the best, and I hope it all works out for you.

From someone in the know....

The requirement is for 5 GCSE's at C - to include English language and Maths and 2 A Levels - of which you are correct in assuming that an E is a Pass. The A levels can be in any subject which does make yours acceptable. OASC looks at leadership potential, to become a Rock Officer you will also have to attend a Potential Regiment Officers Aquintance Course (PROAC). You will need to be recommended by both to be accepted.

If you give your local AFCO a call they can send you a DVD which explains it all.

Good Luck

Most of the questions we get in the recruiting forums are easily answered by phoning the AFCO...That is why some on here get annoyed with a perceived lack of effort on some people behalf. Plus if why was seeking info I'd rather get it from the horses mouth so to speak and not from somebody I neither know or could see...You might be getting advice that is wrong or misleading...That is the risk of internet anonymous forums.

I'm glad you've got your answer anyway...Thread closed
