If you have enough energy and time left during basic to go to the gym outside PT lessons, you are doing something wrong.

You'll be getting daily PT whilst in basic training, so at least you'll be able to keep your overall fitness up.

The short answer to your question is "Yes". But don't pump too hard or your body armour won't fit you!:pDT_Xtremez_28:

Its changed since I was there then - I worked my arse off before I joined up only to be told while I was out on a run one night during basic training that if I carried out PT without a PTI present again they would charge me!!! Ended up I was not as fit after basic than before I went to Halton!

Can't dispute that - you may be more upto date than me. I'll check it out if that's the case. Will let you know how I get on!

It is very unlikely that you will be allowed to use the gym. First of all you wont have time and secondly you wont have the energy. IIRC the gym up top (recruits gym) is only opon through the day and the one down the hill (for permenant staff) is in the area deemed as out of bounds, and you need a swipe card thingy.

You probably wont finish what ever it is you are doing that day until about 1800-1830 ish, then you will have tea, then kit prep for the next day, ready to be up again at 5.30am.

Just go there for your 9 weeks, do as is asked of you and after that (at your trade training Unit) you can go to the gym until your heart is content, (well after work/training anyway). You wont get that out of shape in 9 weeks as you will be constantly doing something, there is not much sitting about.

It was over a decade ago that I did it - before human rights for recruits ha ha. Hopefully its changed although now its probably not allowed due to health and safety!!!

Simple answer is no you can't use the gym. Main reason to start with is due to having no time, the other reason is they won't let you although this does depend on your trade, firefighters/wsop/pti's can use the gym but its sh1te so I wouldn't bother.

I don't think you will be able to use it without an induction course by a PTI
This wil probably have to be carried out during the day when you will have other things to worry about

As has been mentioned already. the gym at the bottom of the hill is out of bounds to recruits. When you get onto ADF you can go there though. But during your 9 weeks basic just make do with the daily PT sessions.

Or you can run up the hill and do the fitness trail in the woods.

As I foolishly decided to do one night on JMLC with the rocks on the course. Only the once mind.

Again, this area will be OOB to recruits. To be fair, if you have got time to do extra phys then its probably because you arent doing something you should be. ie: bull night, kit prep etc etc.

I'm sure the thread opener has probably done basic and figured this out for himself considering the thread was started in August.
