Forgive me if I'm being short sighted but here's a thought for Government.........

Suspend all immigration immediately. Process all current applicants before any more are considered, IMMEDIATELY deport any non qualifiers so you don't waste tax payers money.

Don't just threaten the unemployed with a back to work scheme, assess them & their fitness and place them in employment.
Put them to work in our fields with same pay as migrant workers, or other jobs that they are capable of fulfilling
Ffs migrants/immigrants can survive on the money why can't the lazy feckless scroungers do the same.

Cap the profits made by service industries or increase corporation tax to plough some money back into the country and back to the people making the profit for them. Stop the greedy shareholders getting fat while we get hungry.

I mean all the supermarkets advertising up to 50% cuts on various items to help the credit crunch does that mean they are still making a profit......I fekking think so, so the greedy cnuts have been fleecing us.
Tesco made 2.2Billion profit with other major stores chasing hard, we're making that profit and all we seem to be doing is paying more and more for it.
Tesco here buys local Lincoln produce in bulk probably for peanuts yet sells it at over 300% of what the local farm shop charges, everyone is getting shafted along that line except Tesco.

Everyone but the man/woman (check out my pc ness) in the street seems to be making money hand over fist.

Privatisation, what a success that’s been. Just think of the money that could have been ploughed back into the country from BT, Electricity, Gas, etc etc.

Stop off shore banking, you take this country's money you pay your fekking tax's here too like the rest of us.

Stop writing off 3rd world county's debts, ffs we only just finished paying off the Yanks for WW2 where's all that spare cash gone?

Stop paying Ministers for all the cr@p we have to provide for ourselves and subsidising their sponging families put them on the same rates of allowances as the military, good enough for us good enough for them.
I live locally to my camp but I can't see DHE putting me in a new kitchen or carpets at public expense. Why should the tax payer pay for a fekking MP's.

Instead of making BAA sell its airports to competitors make them all government owned and make them rent back space that way they all have to compete for space again generating cash for UK.

Rant over but I'm getting really fekked off with this country not being able to use simple solutions to solve its national problems its about time some of these politicians got a pair and did something instead of bleating.

Limited immigration is essential to any country. Where do we draw the line? Do we stop issuing visas altogether? What about Tourist visas? How do you assess someone's suitability to enter the country? You can't just turn immigration off.

Immigrants (generally illegal ones) are prepared to accept a standard of living far below what would be acceptable to UK citizens, hence they live on a relative pittance. Forced labour has quite severe implications and, without the provision of a living wage, is slave labour.

With the economy in the state it is in an increase in corporation tax is not a good idea if you want to stimulate growth. An increase in tax on or a reduction in shareholders dividends will reduce interest in buying shares and affect stock market prices further.

If Tesco sells it at 300% of the farm shop price, why is anyone shopping at Tesco? Supermarkets use reductions as loss leaders - by encouraging people in with cheap goods they ensure purchase of normally priced goods. The average profit margin for supermarkets is 2 to 3%.

Agreed privatisation is an area of mismanagement in recent years, but it has protected the government from managing rising fuel costs in the energy industry. Most worrying is the use of PFIs to maintain governement debt off balance sheet enabling the governement to stay within its official borrowing limits.

Stop off shore banking, you take this country's money you pay your fekking tax's here too like the rest of us.

Agreed. Loopholes in international and UK tax law need to be closed. This has to be balanced with encouraging multi-national companies to base themselves in the UK.

Stop writing off 3rd world county's debts, ffs we only just finished paying off the Yanks for WW2 where's all that spare cash gone?

Inflation. The payments to the Yanks under Lend Lease have decreased over time in real terms just as the payments on your mortgage will do. A mortgage of £100 per month would have been large in the mid seventies, it would now be considered negligible. Lend lease payments effectively became a nominal amount by national economic standards.

Stop paying Ministers for all the cr@p we have to provide for ourselves and subsidising their sponging families put them on the same rates of allowances as the military, good enough for us good enough for them.

Agreed. Give MPs the same support as military personnel in SSSA.

Instead of making BAA sell its airports to competitors make them all government owned and make them rent back space that way they all have to compete for space again generating cash for UK.

Increasing competition will encourage other companies to invest and stimulate growth. The opportunity to invest in an airport could be a new income stream to secure an airlines finances.

This country isn't perfect and I agree with many of your sentiments, but knee-jerk reactions are exactly what you don't need in a fragile economic environment. The government needs to get off its collective arrse, but before anything else happens it must provide the best security it can for our economy after 11 years of making it more fragile than it ought to have been.

We can all see areas which could be changed in order to try and make our country a better place but things aren't going to improve much as far as I can see. Our banks greed and their desire to constantly make more money for their shareholders has finally come to roost. Personally I found it very hard to watch the pictures of the staff from Lehmann clearing out their desks without a slight sense of amusement especially when the BBC advised that the average paycheck was around £160,000 per annum. Bet the security guard on the door finds employment faster than the bankers!
