Help for Heroes Challenge Match

On Saturday 20th September, Twickenham will host the Help for Heroes Challenge Match, raising money for the Tri-Services Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court in Surrey. Teams will contain big name players from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, Combined Services players and likeminded players from around the world.

The idea of Mark Souster, Rugby Correspondent for The Times, the Help for Heroes Challenge Match will emphasise the special relationship between rugby and the Armed Forces and, given the current prominence of the military in the UK media, what better way to recognise them than a rugby match at Twickenham?

To assist in organising the event, Mark has harnessed the enthusiasm of former England international Simon Halliday and Adam Cocks, a member of the HAC, who was wounded in Afghanistan and is now a patient at Headley Court.

The goal of the match is to raise £1 million to fund a specific capital project at Headley Court.

So, if you want to help the best way will be to buy tickets.

We are finalising the details now and will publish regular updates on this site and in the media. Meantime, keep in touch with what we’re doing by logging on to this page – www.helpforheroesrugby.org.uk or email your details to info@helpforheroesrugby.org.uk; we will send you further information as it becomes available, including when tickets go on sale.

Tickets are on sale on ticketmaster......cant for the life of me think of a valid reason not to take the family. Any other goaters fancy it?

If any goaters from the Lincoln area fancy going? PM me and we could travel together and share a beer or 2 on the train.

last time I went to HQ was for the Army v Navy match a few years ago and got completely bladdered in the Twickenham Tup.

Almost got into a fight with a Para (at least he had a 2 Para shirt on!) in there for feeding his 18 yo sister some whiskey......how was I to know she had just been outside throwing up?

Dont know about inside the stadium as I normally have a hip flask (three actually:pDT_Xtremez_28:) with me filled with the above mentioned golden nectar.

Not sure how accurate this statement is but I just found this on the H4H rugby match site on facebook

"So far Martin Johnson, Will Greenwood, Dan Luger, Mark Regan, Lawrence Dallaglio, Jonah Lomu, Scott Gibbs and Martin Offiah are confirmed as playing "

If it's true it looks like it's going to be a blinder of a match - even with rugby leaguers involved.

I wasn't meaning to say anything against rugby league.I meant with such a variation of playing styles and the fact that no-one will really be bothered about which team actually wins, it looks like it will be a fantastic day out.

On saying that I didn't realise Martin Offiah played union, I thought he was a league player for his whole career.

You learn something new everyday. Thanks for that.

I do intend to be a wee bit on the shabby side by the time the full time whistle goes. Can't wait now.

Plenty of places for a beer before and after. The Cabbage patch is always good for a beer pre-KO and the West Car Park post match. During the match all of the bars are fully open so no real need to stack up too many. Here's to a great day out and see you all there :)
