.... they can't block your notice though. It just takes 6 months longer in most trades than a PVR does but I believe it is much easier to plan your life around.
If you're at the stage where you can place your notice then the difference between a PVR and 'Notice' is largely immaterial. In fact it may be better to put in an 18 month PVR over the Notice: with the Notice you are given a completion date and that's that, should your resettlement not go to plan or some other unforeseen glitch happen you are stuck with that date and can do nothing about it. If you need to change the date you have to cancel your Notice and then re-submit it again - there's no flexibilty. Whereas with a PVR you can simply apply to bring the outdate closer or extend it if necessary.

BTW I'm not the expert, I'm just quoting what my HR Admin people advised me to do when I left (yup, I PVR'd rather than Notice).

I suspect that there is also a subtle difference in the stats between PVR and Notice. As has already been mentioned, PVRs do not have to be replaced immediately.

Incidently, what trade(s) are you lot that are getting these benevolent calls? I'm TG3 and haven't heard of it happening in our trade? Is it just linies (is that spelt right?), or is it all trades overmanned / overstreched / overPVR'd?

One of my leaders has recently been on a course that involved a trip to visit PMA. They were told that there is a recognised problem with retention at the moment (especially in the techie trades) but it was believed that things would get better soon. They are also trying to increase the numbers through the door at Halton so any man power problems will be fixed in the next year or two?
Make of that what you will...... they seem to think recruiting is the answer, not trying to retain what they have..

Apparently Halton are only 60% instructor manned at the moment so who's going to train the inflated influx of new recruits?:S

I have been offerered a job and after chatting with a couple of lads at work was convinced I would be able to get out quickly, especially with the rigger trade being overmanned (apparently!). However, after reading this thread the reports of people getting out in just a month or two seem way off the mark, so is there any hope or am I stuck for the next 15 months till my time ex?

PVR refused

Hey everyone, just looked in my JPA inbox that manning have refused my PVR because JPA had a date for earliest release but manning refuse to accept it even though the difference in dates between JPA and my years notice was one month. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get round this and does anyone know what the european directive number about contracts etc?

Go and see a solicitor, you are entitled to 30 mins free of charge consultation. They will give you your options (they are the SMEs after all).

Yes. Speak with your SNEC/FS/WO/Flt Cmdr/Boss, Unit HR Staff and/or even the JPAC, FFS!!. And then starting asking questions on a forum where faceless people (some of whom are very good at barrackroom rules and regs) will give you pointers to getting out early. But don't hold your breath awaiting an answer (or a result). And it might help if you explained the situation (regarding the months difference) a little more clearly 'cos I don't fully understand what you're asking TBH. :pDT_Xtremez_35:

More phone calls!

More phone calls!

More 'PMA/DACOS Manning/Billy Smarts' phone calls reported from Brize today.

The Aircraft Techie Sgts were asked if promotion and a 'Financial Package' would make them reconsider withdrawing the PVR?

At least one of the Snecs considered himself to be in no way competitive for promotion a minute before the call (must have been a very productive minute?).

This may be many many people talking bollox! Or perhaps 'Manning' performing some sort of survey with a view to gauging attitudes towards leaving the RAF!. Or is it complete meltdown at the top and some daft attempt to retain those who can't be arsed anyway whilst dropping a fat smelly one on those who remain!

Hearing about these phone calls is proving to be the biggest moral booster since a bunch of guys were given (in some cases) 100k+ to bugger off and let the rest of us take up the considerable slack.

For gods sake guys. If someone has PVR'd let them be. Concentrate on keeping the rest of your 'Loyal' workforce happy. Rumours spread fast and it is getting nearly impossible to keep the lads/girls motivated when all we hear is that the only way to get a move or push for promotion is to bang out.

'Manning' could do a lot worse than attempting to reassure the workforce that no 'underhanded' deals are going on.

Speeling might be sh1te. I don't care. fecked off.

Chad, I think you are dead right and even though I may soon be getting a phone call offering me loads of dosh and an unwarranted (and unwanted) promotion to stay in, I think ACOS Manning’s time and effort would be much better spent keeping those left behind me contented.

Don’t the big wigs realise that the vast majority of us in the PVR club are beyond recall! Unfortunately, the offer of a lump sum (if actually given) would be a kick in the teeth to all those who haven’t PVR but have served the service well because they love it. Watch those PVR’s flood in from every SNCO and his dog if that ever happened.

My under standing of these phone calls/enqueries to people leaving and what would keep them in is basicaslly a survey (or even to gain feed back) to understand the current manning situation and what it would take to retain the people that are already in and contemplating leaving/PVRing or not even signing on.
If the right 'deals' were offered/put in place then perhaps retention can be acheived before they put 'pen to paper' so to speak - we can but hope for the people staying in (i've already nailed my colours to the mast so to speak).

Even if this is some form of attitude/future retention survey etc, it is not being perceived as such. PMA have got to be very careful here. I think we've all heard more than one story now of individuals being pursaded to withdraw PVR in exchange for that cushty 8 til 5 posting and, oh yes, we made a mistake, you were due promotion after all :raf:

Bloody cat flaps the lot of them.

I can't say about the promotion or financial incentives but it is certainly true about the pick of the postings. A SNCO I work alongside was offered LOS 30 which he turned down. He then got a phone call asking what it would take to get him to accept it. As he is currently bean stealing in the mess he said a posting closer to home would possibly do it. Within an hour he had the offer of a posting within commuting distance of his home and could he give an answer by 1700 that day! So who has been bumped off that posting to make room for my colleague and who gets stiffed short notice to replace him here?

If that is the way they are playing things now what are the chances that Odiham and Benson have a huge upsurge in PVRs in order to get a decent posting?

Hehehe.... Thanks for the laugh! That'd only happen if you could put a PVR in twice! I recently got posted down to Benson for my last 18 months. I actually like it here but it's amazing the amount of people getting out. The lists in SRO's for mandatory resettlement briefings are huge. With lots and lots of JR's on them.

On my shift the vast majority of JR's (non AMM's) are leaving at 9 or have PVR'd already. Most SNCO's around the 18/19/20 year point are just hanging around for their pension. The only group who are consistently not leaving (but some are) are the 12 - 15 year CPL's who have decided to go for the pension.

It's quite sad as it's the decent lads who leave. They'll get a job no sweat and make the transition to civvie life. The RAF is setting itself up for a very interesting bunch of middle managers in 10 years that's all I can say.

As for bargaining a PVR for a posting with PMA for the lads at Benson (or SH) I can't see it happening. A lot of the guys I work with have been trying for ages to get away (not because they hate it - they just want a change like anyone else) but PMA won't have it. They need to bolster the ranks on SH so why let experience bods go to fast jet etc when they're actively robbing that pool of manpower for SH/AT fleets? Unfortunately that's one of the biggest reasons these guys are PVR'ing.
