Just a quick question with regards to DA aimed at our Shiney Breathen.

One of the guys I work with was "temporarily" asked to move out of one block into transit accomodation. He had to move all his belongings including his bed. This was back in January.

He has now been told to move back into his original room.

Basically, my understanding is that as he was directed to move this would fall under Service Reasons.

Therefore he should be entitled to claim DA for the move into transit accom and again for the move back into the block.

Does anyone know if there is some little clause somewhere stating that we can be d****d around in this manner without being able to claim DA.

I would be very surprised if such a DA claim was authorised. DA is to compensate costs incurred as the result of a move. Unless he/she has incurred any expense (Sky, internet connections etc) I cannot see that there is a valid claim. Unfortunately the buggeration factor doesn't enter the equation.

I understand what you are saying fed up, but I have looked in the JSP and he seems to qualify under the eligibility section. Nowhere in it does it say that internal moves within a Unit are not included. However it seems that different Units interpret the JSP to suit sometimes.

For example I read a few posts on here from last year regarding DA for first moves and it appears some got it and some didn't. I also noticed that the JSP has now changed to specifically state that "First setting up of home" does not qualify for DA.

I dont know about anyone else but who really incurs almost a grand of costs when moving from one Unit to another?

I was always under the impression that YOU paid for you first move out of SLA and you last move into Civvy street.

Anyway when Colt shut down the lads and lasses who were left to man Neatishead and Trimingham were moved from pillar to post, as accomodation was closed, all seemed to recieve some form of DA. But like it has been said Units see it different ways

I'll tell you one thing thats stupid about the new way of doing DA on JPA.
The fact that it goes into your pay instead of being issued as a one of payment like it used to be.
Say you put in your claim after mid month, it wont hit your wages until the next month. Then you get your DA after you have moved.

Yep, and they don't tell you about that one anywhere!

Thankfully, the Chf Clk was very helpful and managed to sort out things for me.

Its all written somewhere.
Change of address, letters, phone connections, contract tie ins for services ,cleaning house, Insurance to cover goods in transit, travelling to sort out qtr back and forth, phone calls to change address reinstate services and changes in insurance premiums and policies, partner changing jobs? eating out when qtr unavailable for cleaning, costs due to wild parties in the house, sorting out new doctors, schools, jobs.

And if you go overseas you will spend a hell of a lot more, but get the same rate?

Going back to the original question, it is really a case of interpretation of the regulations. Did the chap move for Service reasons and could he justify expenditure on either move? If the answer is yes in both cases then I suggest he speaks to handbrake house with a legitimate arguement and puts the claim in. Like FUS says though there's no claim for just being dicked around without any expense.

Below is the list of what DA covers and what it doesn't cover straight from the JSP752

EXPENSES THAT DISTURBANCE ALLOWANCE CONTRIBUTES TOWARDS
1. Expenses Included in the DA Rate. The following expenditure is included in
the DA Rate calculation:
a. Provision of/alteration to curtains.
b. Additional furnishing costs.
c. Loss of subscriptions (eg Gymnasium).
d. Costs associated with the preparation of current accommodation for
march out/sale/letting (eg cost of paint for making good, commercial cleaning,
window cleaning, dry cleaning, laundry).
e. Bulk clearing of garden/household rubbish.
f. Loss of food (opened packets/non transportable).
g. Satellite/cable reconnection/installation.
h. Cost of moving and installing new TV aerials.
i. Mail redirection.
j. Telephone reconnection/installation.
k. Extra cost of postage/telephone calls.
l. Insurance of goods in transit.
m. Meals out due to cleaning of residence.
n. Plumbing-in of domestic appliances.
o. Alterations to electrical fittings (eg plug/voltage changes on assignment
to/from overseas).
p. Loss of purchased guarantee or extended warranties (when assigned

2. Expenses Included in the Child Element of the DA Rate. The following
expenditure is included in the Child Element of the DA Rate calculation:
a. School uniform.
b. School shoes.
c. School sports kit.
d. School books.

3. Expenses Excluded from the DA Rate. DA does not contribute towards the
following as these may be covered by other allowances:
a. Hotel Costs.
b. Legal and estate agent’s fees and other fees associated with the
buying/selling/ letting and repossession of property.
c. Removal of Personal Effects (PE).

Hope this clears any confusions about why people get a grand and it is free money for the hassle of moving house FFS.

When I moved 2nd to last time I incurredsomewhere in the region of £500 pounds more than DA. This is because I moved over a bank holiday and everything I owned spent a week in the back of a truck.
