You would find that the subsequent court marshall would take a very dim view of you striking a SNCO in the execution of his duty as laid down in QRs appendix 27.

If in doubt salute, end off.

I doubt if 'an altercation' between two fellow SNCOs would go to court martial.

Especially if there are no witnesses.

Its doesn't even happen when there are lots of witnesses, especially if the guywho got hit first was a spineless FS yes man, which in the last two cases I know of was just the case.

I can't open the reference at the moment but you're looking for AP818. As far as I am aware you are to salute while in uniform whatever your headdress unless local orders dictate otherwise.

Don't think I'm wrong but the AP818 is the RAF Drill andd Cerimonial Manual. This shows you how to conduct the correct drill movements?

When and how to Salute is covered in a chapter within the AP, for both a somebody on his own or as part of a body of personnel.

Don't know if it still applies now but when I was at HQ STC years ago it was the policy on camp to not salute anyone. Too many zobs walking about the place, you would have been in a perpetual salute every time you went anywhere. As for the autocrat who is fond of charging people for having their hands in their pockets...what a cock...I think he will find the transition to civilian life a little perplexing and somewhat confusing. Probably will have to go straight into another uniform of some description. A possible Neo Nazi.[/quote
