I was discussing this last night over a few jars.

His England days are probably behind him now especially with Cipriani coming of age. So many operations cant be good, but he has bounced back from them before.

Time can only tell.

When fit, in form, and given decent ball he's still England's best Outside-Half. Cipriani is clearly the coming man, but he doesn't have the experience of Wilkinson, and I'm not sure he is yet able to control a game completely from 10. Equally, there are a number of other contenders (Lamb, Geraghty, Hodgson) who should provide the necessary competition for the jersey. Wilkinson is still a relatively young man, and he can definitely come back. He provides numerous options and I could see England in the future with a back-line of:
9. Care/Foden
10. Wilkinson/Cipriani
11. Simpson-Daniel
12. Geraghty/Barkley/Wilkinson
13. Noon
14. Sackey
15. Cipriani/Lewsey

Firstly the pack need to start winning quality (Quick!!) ball and allow the Outside-Half, whoever that is, to play on the front foot. Dismiss Wilkinson at your peril, he is a proven, world-class player who can still play international rugby for another 3 or 4 years.

Cipriani is over rated and over hyped. Why he is selected over Ryan Lamb is beyond me. Lamd is a tenacious attacking player, where as Cipriani fails to impress in my book.

Some people should stop listening to media hype (becuase thats what it is) and see the player.

It will be interesting to see how the first few selections by Johnson pan out; I don't think Wilko is done with England yet, he still has a lot to offer and though he may have to spend more time on the bench than he's used to his experience could still be invaluable when it come to closing out a tight game.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Ryan Lamb given a chance in the 10 shirt and think he'll benefit greatly from Glaws signing Olly Barkley for next season. They could be Englands 10/12 of the future (with Cipriani at 15). Lamb has the same problem as Cipriani, while they are both young, exciting and gifted they are still learning their trade.

Lamb is a good player but his defence is not yet up to international standard. Both he and Cipriani are still developing, but Cipriani is the better all-round player at the moment.

With Jonny going in for surgery it can only be a good opportunity for Johnson to look at new players like Lamb, Geraghty and Cipriani for the 10 shirt.

The future does look quite bright for England Rugby with the amount of youngsters coming through, although alot of them do seem to be backs

The only thing Cipriani is good at is being caught in comprimising positions with lady boys.
