I was the NCO Tech on the initial 6 man deployment to Lockerbie. :pDT_Xtremez_30:
Were you on the Herc or were you with the follow up group who crashed my rover? :raf:

Can't say I loved that particular job, but from a technical perspective it was 'challenging'.

I've still got the Gateway article somewhere in a photo album.

I cant tell a lie - i was there when your rover got a wee bit bent but i wasnt driving - honest guv.

Thing is, that was the brand new AMF tech wagon.
I signed for it a couple of weeks before Christmas and spent 2 days fitting it with the standard Tactical standby 'one of everything'.
When Lockerbie happened I'd just been stood down off NARO, the rest of the hanger was on leave or drunk and we were about the only people the duty officer could find.
I took my wagon as it could cope with any situation that might have developed..... apart from being smashed head first into an Austin 1800 driven by a drunken Jock.
Joe taxi gave me a copy of the photo...... That Austin wasn't pretty.
A week later they gave me a new one..... which I got to spend another 2 days fitting with everything they were able to rescue from the original. Still, it was better than working for a living.

Actually mad pierre - if you look very closely its a t reg maxi - i know cos i was there - and got the scars to prove it. The bodywork was shifted 6 inches back on the chassis - and the ironic thing, raf insurance is only 3rd party.

I was on TCW from 2000- 06 and loved it, so i was wondering what others thought of there time on 'the wing'. might help others who haven't yet done a tour realise that it isn't as bad as some people have made it out to be in the past.

Also i know there are a few of you on here who are still on the wing so let us all know what is going on there at the mo and where things are heading...

1st Tour 83 - 86 (memory serves me right)
2nd Tour 96 - 99 (off me head most of the time)
3rd Tour 2003 - 2005 (feet never touched the ground)

Possibly working alongside you too :pDT_Xtremez_28:

If you look very closely at my copy of the photo you see a mangled lump of steel with bits sticking out of it :0 I only knew it was British Leyland because some of your det told me. I can vouch for the state of my rover though, the picture shows it a good 6 inches back on the chassis, a sort of snubnosed LWB 110.

Gotten over the move back to blighty ok then Biffa me old love sparra.....
Just........taken two years, but managed it. Still find it a bit cold occasionally, but then again, anyone would.

Perks took over and then Barry the W....er disestablished the post. Funny thing is, he forgot to tell PMC, so when Perks was finished, front and centre, one new TG4 Senior. Oh how I laughed.
