Ooa - X-factor

WE have had a lot of extra work over the last few weeks due to people suddenly being 'Downgraded' and being unable to meet their OOA commitments. We have had a great discussion in the office and decided that we can stop just about all the last minute 'sickies'. If they can't go OOA then they are not entitled to the X Factor and as long as they remain 'sick' they don't get the X factor money. Hit them in the pocket where it hurts the most and it might stop the 'shirkers'.
The genuine guy or girl who is downgraded is not the problem. It’s the lazy, down right slackers who cause all the heartache for every one else. All you barrack room lawyers don’t start, you are the ones doing the shirking at a guess.

I'd support it IF you could tell the difference between the genuine downgradings and the lazy shirkers. The problem lies with the med centres across the RAF. If they weren't so eager to downgrade people for the slightest sneeze, then we wouldn't be in this predicament. When i was at a certain fighter base in north yorkshire, our single biggest problem was the med centre. EVERYONE knew that if you didn't want to do something then a quick visit to the med centre was the solution! :pDT_Xtremez_25:

If you type the word 'sickies' into the search facility you will see lots and lots of threads on this...essentially most agree with you but there is the salient point of how do you tell who is genuinely crook and who is swinging the lead...and I mean in a legal sense not just through what you personally think is wrong or right...

Whilst welcome, the Op Allowance needs to be doubled and LSA made non-taxable. That will generate enough volunteers desperate for an extra grand per month to fulfil these OOA positions. Those with the twisted sock syndrome could then do their 9-5 job and also cover the duties of the others who are OOA, with no financial reward - just double the workload at home.

This would be at little cost to the treasury, considering the number of troops in Iraq is reducing day by day.

The other alternative is to send the sickies to the Falklands, where there is ample medical care to straighten out the odd misaligned sock.

Like "they" tell us there is no PVR problem, everything's hunky dory etc etc.

Falklands = No Op Name, No medal, just a large beer gut!

Isn't it funny how glass backs are more prevalent at this time of year? It happened to me last year, and with 5 weeks' notice I was one of the lucky ones, although it still screwed up my Christmas.

It used to p1ss me off well and truly when leg irons used to get out of going to the sandpit or down south, yet they still managed to get the good routes or dets to the states etc ahead of those that volunteered for the less pleasurable places. :pDT_Xtremez_25:

We go round and round on this subject, we all agree that sicknotes should be penalised in some way, but how? As stated by Box of Frogs how do you tell the difference between a real or imaginary sickie? Do you really want to penalise the poor sod who is activley trying to get upgraded? I wouldn't, but something needs to be done. Suggestions on the back of a sealed envelope to the RAF c/o wherever it is based at the moment!
